sheldonm Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 Received both the Hutch and Tyner yesterday, downloaded them into my Ipod last night and will spin them tonight on my stereo....can't wait! m~ Quote
mgraham333 Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 The Hutch is my favorite of this batch. I like them both much more than I thought I would. This is not my favorite period for either artist but I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. I've been keeping up with the Select series. I use it for the exposure to artists (or artists' material) that I wouldn't ordinarily consider. Sort of a way to stretch beyond basic BN & OJC. This was a good batch. I would recommend both. Quote
Clunky Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 I'll be getting the Hutch but the single disc Asante by Tyner didn't work for me, the bonus tracks on that disc were much better than the worldy music stew of the bulk of the tracks. Quote
jazzbo Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 The material with strings which is getting its first cd release here is my favorite of all the Tyner material. . . . I'll get this Select this year sometime. Quote
kulu se mama Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 anyone who's interested can buy the hutch on ebay - it's up to $70 with 14 bids. what's up with that? Quote

Eric Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 I've had the Hutch lps for years and have always enjoyed this music quite a bit. Hearing it all on CD (versus those lousy 70s BN lps) is a real treat! This is very nice music, great vibe! Quote

I've had some that sounded good, but many had way too many pops and clicks right out of the shrinkwrap. Quote
andybleaden Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 got mine on order and cannot wait as I had the lps and then cd'd them and need an audio upgrade Quote
Eric Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 (edited) BTW, there is an Eddie Marshall CD called Dance of the Sun on Timeless from 77 that features the basic group as on many of the Select sessions (Hutch, Leary, Boyd). I see the board member "currently known as donald petersen" has a copy for sale - it is definitely worth getting if you like the Select. Edited February 8, 2007 by Eric Quote
Guest donald petersen Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 that's donald peterSEN. thank you. Quote
Eric Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 got it - in any event, somebody snatch that CD!! Quote
Guest donald petersen Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 eric, i was just messing around. it isn't my real name anyways. i should be thanking you for the "plug". but that makes me feel weird. Quote
Guest donald petersen Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 so how are people liking the select? i have "waiting" on vinyl and really like it. i also have "cirrus" and i like it a lot. i also have "knucklebean" and don't care for it. where do the other sessions lie compared to these albums? better? worse? thank you. Quote
jazzbo Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Hmmm. . . ."Inner Glow" I have no doubt you will really like. And I think you'll like "The View Within" as much as "Waiting". . . .Just a hunch. Quote
Guest donald petersen Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 i was surprised to see on the aaj board discussion about the box, the main hutcherson fan thought "waiting" was the weakest set on the disc. maybe i need to reevaluate my thoughts... Quote
Soulstation1 Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Did they get Booby's name correct on the box? Quote
zen archer Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 Did they get Booby's name correct on the box? Yes they did , but is everyone's box kinda printed badly the blacks are gray or did they do this on purpose like a ghosted effect ?. the booklet cover and the insets are printed with rich blacks ....i wonder if Mosaic is trying to curb cost? Just spinning the LP for 'Waiting' and side 1 is an absolute corker, a real groover. The second side is not quite so strong but overall a definite . George Cables was definitely on form for this date ! Quote
andybleaden Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 got mine through yesterday and its lovely and delightful to hear em a little cleaner than my old records......lovely to hear Inner Glow mastered up nicely ....as for art work ...not the best yet ...bit muddy in my opinion ....but those marimbas!
