catesta Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 No music of any sorts. But I did get a new four burner gas grill. Quote
Peter Johnson Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 No music (yet), although I know something is on its way from Mosaic courtesy of my parents, who had to make an unexpected trip to New England last week. Significant other and I got each other good, technical snowshoes, which we're going to use next weekend! Lots of stocking stuffers, chocolate, books...a very good year! Quote
Quincy Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 For watching his dogs on Christmas Eve, my neighbor gave me a $25 gift card to Amoeba. I'm still wondering what I'll get. Was your neighbor afraid the dogs would attack Santa? That's very sweet, both that the neighbor cares about the dogs like and thew a nice bone your way for coming through! Quote
Lush Life Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 [There were also a number of CDs, DVDs and one book that didn't meet minimum requirements (they weren't blues or jazz) so they'll go back to Amazon or Borders this week. Dan, inquiring minds want to know what CDs and DVDs are headed back to amazon and Borders! Quote
Dan Gould Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 [There were also a number of CDs, DVDs and one book that didn't meet minimum requirements (they weren't blues or jazz) so they'll go back to Amazon or Borders this week. Dan, inquiring minds want to know what CDs and DVDs are headed back to amazon and Borders! OK, but first I'll have to cop to the fact that some of the music was in fact blues or jazz but just didn't appeal sufficiently to keep. Jimmy Witherspoon, Blue Spoon This one was a tough decision but what I've heard about the second date on the CD made me leery, even if Golson did do the arrangements. A three disc blues compilation that repeated too much music I already have plus one disc was current stars I'm not fond enough of. Hunt for Red October and Sunset Boulevard - one is a great film, one is decent enough, but I traded them in for an oral history of the blues DVD and the Monk Jazz Icons disc, so that's a much better pair. A book of baseball trivia. On this one, I acted extra appreciative but I honestly can't believe my in-laws would buy such a thing. Yeah, I love baseball. But I'm not The Schwaab, and I stopped being fascinated by trivia books somewhere around the time that I started being fascinated by girls. Quote

I'm used to looking up at what everyone else got. Plus, you guys buy jazz for yourselves all year long, plus you all each have like 80 Mosaics, and I have 5! Did I mention that I got those simpsons sets for $16 each at Target??? In fact, with the cds I got at tower being 40% off or more, not one item mentioned above cost more than $16. Oh, did I mention the new Bentley convertible I got as well??? It's not a Rolls, but it will get me from point A to point b...... Edited December 28, 2006 by BERIGAN Quote
Templejazz Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 From my sister, probably the best gift ever: A new DVD player to replace my PS2 that got stolen from my apt. A Mosaic Giftcard for $75...sweeet....might put that toward the Gerald Wilson set I guess I wasn't as naughty this past year as I thought Quote
patricia Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 From my sister, probably the best gift ever: My younger daughter's former boyfriend gave her that set last year and she was thrilled. The relationship didn't last [she's engaged to somebody else now], but she appreciates the wit on a new level now than she did as a little kid. Her cell's ringtone is the entire Muppet Show theme. The same daughter gave me the smallest garden gnome which is about 3" high. I guess she remembered my saying that they had become a cliche'. The exception is a life-size cement dinasaur a couple of blocks from my building. Sure makes you look. Quote
BruceH Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 Got the new Roz Chast super-collection Theories Of Everything...also a book called Great Cathedrals...the Val Lewton DVD box...well, actually, that last I got from Borders with a couple of gift cards, and I still had to make up the difference, but it still counts I think.
