sal Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 This was a stunning film. Saw it yesterday, and can't get it out of my head. Right now is one of those times where I just can't seem to be able to put together any cohesive thoughts that explain to people why I was so taken by the film. Its one that is going to take some time to sink in, and would definitely be well-served with a second viewing. But its got my mind spinning with its themes and beautiful imagery. Has anybody else seen it? I imagine this is a movie that is going to divide audiences. Quote
BruceH Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 I heard it divided film festival audiences. I've got to admit, the reviews so far haven't been very encouraging. Quote
RDK Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 Divided is right. I know a few people who have seen this, and while a couple loved it, everyone else hated it with a passion. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 I've been pretty interested in it since I first saw the trailer several months ago. Looks very intriguing. I just hope it doesn't end up being some sloppy turd like What Dreams May Come was. Quote
sal Posted December 7, 2006 Author Report Posted December 7, 2006 For me, seeing The Fountain was an experience. The story is non-linear and difficult to follow in certain parts. I imagine for alot of people, the movie isn't going to make any sense at all. The best way to approach this film is just to go to the theater and just give yourself over to experiencing what you see and hear on the screen, and don't drive yourself nuts trying to figure everything out while you are watching it. I saw the film almost 24 hours ago, and its now starting to come together for me. The experience of watching this film (not the film itself) reminds me of when I first saw 2001: A Space Odyssy. (which was also released to divided audiences and mixed critical press back in 68) Quote

jlhoots Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 Overall didn't really work for me. Quote

My wife and I were just talking about that movie today in the car. I have not seen it and by her descriptions I don't think I want to. I do want to the see "The Fountain" however. Randy saw it and said it made absolutely no sense. Sounds good to me! Quote
Scott Dolan Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 I thought Requiem For A Dream was brilliant. But it's definitely not a movie you'll want to watch more than once. Very disturbing stuff. Quote
sal Posted December 8, 2006 Author Report Posted December 8, 2006 I loved "Pi" and "Requiem for a Dream" as well. However, I think "The Fountain" eclipses them both. Aranofsky is one of the most exciting filmmakers alive today. I can't wait to see what he does next. Quote
sal Posted May 15, 2007 Author Report Posted May 15, 2007 Out on DVD today. Its interesting to read more recent writings on this film....in retrospect, people are starting to realize what a special film this was. I predict that 20 years from now, this one will be held in the same pathenon as 2001, Solaris, and other classic mind bending films dealing with themes of life, death, and beyond. Quote
