Big Al
Is Afro Cuban in print? Blue Note sez so!
clifford_thornton
what is incredible? i think valerieB seems to know some of these musicians on a more personal level so he or she probably can, despire jazz cat's protests, memorialize them on a level other than simply musical. I think Aggie's mind was in the gutter for a sec! Valerie has some great stories, and I know what you mean (and that you weren't insinuating any crap)... There is a KD festival in Austin that happens on his birthday. Sadly, I was too busy to make it this time around. Maybe next year!
sal
I don't think I ever really appreciated Kenny all that much until I heard "Trompeta Toccata", which knocked me out. Now, I listen to his trumpet playing with new ears.

Aggie87
I think Aggie's mind was in the gutter for a sec! Noooo! It sounded like "the mommy" didn't even know whether Valerie was male or female, so I wanted to clue him ("the mommy") in. No aspersions meant to be cast on Ms. Bishop! My mind is often in the gutter though, but not this time!
Guest the mommy
no it wasn't aggie. it was hot tah. it doesn't matter. though why is jazz cat still disagreeing with my initial statement that jazz musicians can be remembered for more than the music they have left behind? it doesn't matter. oh is valerieB the former walter bishop jr? i guess that makes sense. "keeper of my soul", one of the most underrated jazz albums around! though that is a different thread....
