Free For All Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 I've been enjoying the Jazz Icon series lately. Great quality of picture and sound. I also have greatly enjoyed the Jazz Scene USA series (hosted by Oscar Brown Jr.) and the Jazz Casual series (hosted by Ralph Gleason). Also: Straight No Chaser (excellent Monk documentary) On The Road With Duke Ellington Norman Granz' Jazz In Montreaux series ....and there's so much more! Quote

Nate Dorward Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 On a different beat, I've been greatly enjoying Misha Mengelberg's Afijn (a 70-minute documentary + another hour of concert footage). The Jazz Casuals I've seen have been terrific. Quote
Free For All Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 Nat Hentoff Jazz Icon Review Also, didn't Larry Kart review these too? Quote
medjuck Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 See this thread: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...144&hl=DVDs I'd add that The Greatest Jazz Films Ever is now available through True Blue. Quote
Jazz Kat Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 Pat Metheny's Way Up, and Speaking of Now Live, are nice. Not essential. Quote
tatifan Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 See this thread: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...144&hl=DVDs I'd add that The Greatest Jazz Films Ever is now available through True Blue. Don't buy it from them. It's $49.98! Overstock.com has it for a tad under $30. I wish somebody would issue this material from actual source material, instead of public domain style secondary sources.
