Tom 1960 Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Man this is without a doubt one of my favorite jazz albums, period. Great cast lead by JJ, Freddie Hubbard, Clifford Jordan, Cedar Walton, Arthur Harper and Albert "Tootie" Heath. Recorded in 1960 and available on the SONY label. Great playing and excellent sound. It does cost some extra bucks to pick this one up, but well worth it, IMO. Anyone else here love this album as much as I do? Quote
Big Al Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Oooooooooooh YEAH!!!!! Clifford Jordan SMOKES on this one! Some of the funkiest grooves this side of a Silver record! Quote
Free For All Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Oh yeah, it's a great one. Great playing and great arrangements. JJ's projects always have a lot of thought and preparation, no "thrown off" material. He gets the most out of each tune w/o unnecessary clutter. Great personnel on this one! Quote

I picked this one up when I was just beginning to get into jazz in a really big way. Immediately loaded up on all the J.J. I could find. I think this is one of his very best! IMHO Quote
Tom in RI Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 This record was reissued on vinyl around 1979, which is when I 1st got to hear it. Great stuff. I think the cd issue was well done also. Quote
Alexander Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 I have it in the CD edition. I'll have to pull it out and give it a spin, as I haven't heard it in a long time. I have a few other J.J. Columbias (on vinyl). I'll have to give those a spin as well! Quote
jazzmessenger Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 This is also one of my favorites! Quote
