Rooster_Ties Posted August 20, 2003 Report Posted August 20, 2003 (edited) It's all for you! Edited August 20, 2003 by Rooster_Ties Quote
brownie Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 I've got problems with the new software. When I try to view some posts, all I get is the top of the page (down to the 'Add Reply/New Topic/New Poll' level). It's all blank beneath down to the 'Forum home' line where the bottom rest of the page reappears. This happens on quite a number of threads. I manage - sometime but not always - to get into the thread by going thru the 'Add Reply'. Also I could not get into my profile to add a location to my signature. Anybody else has these problems? Jim Alfredson Posted August 21, 2003 Author Report Posted August 21, 2003 brownie, what web browser are you using? You can set your location by following this link: My Profile Quote
brownie Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 b3er, I have Netscape Navigator. When I hit 'My Profile', all I get is the top of the page (down to the 'Your Control Panel line'), then it's all blank until the 'Forum home' part. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 21, 2003 Author Report Posted August 21, 2003 Could you try deleting all your cookies and then re-signing in. Maybe the old software left behind some stuff that is mucking up the new software. What version of Navigator are you using? Quote
BERIGAN Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 As far as the software running slower... last night the server was running incredibly slow. I don't know why. That, coupled with my extremely slow internet connection made all this updating excrutiating. I need to get my cable modem back. This may be part of the reason for the slowness..... http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&cid...01134&printer=1 Quote
brownie Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 b-3er. have deleted cookies, re-enlisted. no changes. I have Netscape Communicator 4.7 browser. Quote
Big Wheel Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 I seem to be having a problem with post width...even when there aren't any big images in a thread, the posts end up being so wide I have to use the horizontal scroll bar to read them. I'm using Opera 7.0, anyone else experiencing this? Still having this problem. I know some board members are Opera users--anyone know of a fix within Opera for this? I don't want to switch browsers yet again! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 22, 2003 Author Report Posted August 22, 2003 If you want to do a little research on your own, the makers of this board software have a website. Invision Power Board Maybe they have the answers. They also have a forum. See if you have the same problems there. Concerning Navigator. Any chance you could upgrade it to the newest version? I think they're up to 7.0 now and it's free. How old and what speed is your computer? Concerning Opera: I have no idea if the software has even been tested for Opera. I would doubt that is has. See if Opera has some sort of controls for Cascading-Style-Sheets. That's what this software uses to create the pages... CSS standards. Quote
Big Wheel Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 I'll check those pages out. I was running Opera when the previous version of the board was up, and it worked fine. In fact, that was one of the reasons I switched to Opera from Navigator. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 22, 2003 Author Report Posted August 22, 2003 Yes, let me know if any other invision powered board does the same things. When I installed the new version I couldn't get the posting feature to work (kind of important for a bulletin board). After researching it on the Invision board I found out that there was a file I had to install that wasn't mentioned in the instructions for updating. Maybe the same is true in this instance. Quote
Big Wheel Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 Shit. The same thing happens both on the Invision forums and the Soulseek board ( http://slskboard.savagenews.com/index.php ) . It doesn't happen on the Macfora board ( http://www.macfora.com/forums/index.php ) but that board is laid out somewhat differently than this one and the others--it looks like they've somehow fixed the width of their board so it doesn't take up the whole screen. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 22, 2003 Author Report Posted August 22, 2003 Hm. I'll post on the Invision board and see if anyone knows a fix for this. Quote
Claude Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 I seem to be having a problem with post width...even when there aren't any big images in a thread, the posts end up being so wide I have to use the horizontal scroll bar to read them. I'm using Opera 7.0, anyone else experiencing this? Still having this problem. I know some board members are Opera users--anyone know of a fix within Opera for this? I don't want to switch browsers yet again! I use the latest version of Opera (7.11) and have not yet encountered the problem (with 1024x768 and 1152x864 resolution). Are there specific threads that cause a problem? Quote
Big Wheel Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 Nope, all of them. I'll upgrade from 7.0 to 7.11 and see what happens. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 22, 2003 Author Report Posted August 22, 2003 Good to hear it... Now brownie, can you upgrade Navigator? Quote
brownie Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 b3-er. I'm posting from work. Company's intructions are to stick to Netscape 4.7. Versions above that may mess up our company system, I am being told. I stick to 4.7 and live with that even if parts of some threads unshow. Quote
brownie Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 b3-er. One thread I cannot go to is the 'My Controls' one. Would appreciate if you could change my location from 'Not Given' to 'Paris, France'. Unable to do that myself. Merci beaucoup! Quote
Noj Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 I keep getting booted off the board. I click on the last page of a thread, then hit back on my browser when I'm through reading and it says "the page cannot be displayed." Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted September 29, 2003 Author Report Posted September 29, 2003 The board was doggin' this morning. Is this still a problem? Quote
J.A.W. Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 The board was doggin' this morning. Is this still a problem? On and off (literally...) Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted September 29, 2003 Author Report Posted September 29, 2003 Weird... will look into it. Quote
Simon Weil Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 I had a problem earlier today - having to try more than once to get a page to come up - but it's gone now. So I'd say at least something has cleared up. Simon Weil Quote
