CJ Shearn Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 that's terrific. Thanks for the article Bertrand. I hope he can find work when he's out. Aren't he and Quentin Warren related? Quote
brownie Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 Some positive news at last! Merci Bertrand! Quote
flat5 Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 Gosh... I just sent the article to some musician friends. That guy can write. Quote
bertrand Posted November 28, 2006 Author Report Posted November 28, 2006 Indeed, I just recently found out that Quentin was Butch's uncle! Bertrand. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 wow. Does Quentin still play at all? Quote
bertrand Posted November 29, 2006 Author Report Posted November 29, 2006 (edited) I think Quentin passed away a while ago. He was a bus driver, although he may have still been playing. Here's a GREAT article (despite the Dexter Gordon goof): http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=22403 Love the quote: “you’re not always in the mood for Monk. Sometimes you just want a Kenny Dorham tune.” Bertrand. Edited November 30, 2006 by bertrand Quote
bertrand Posted December 28, 2006 Author Report Posted December 28, 2006 It seems Butch is out there playing again! He has been at Twins Lounge in DC (uptown location) for the last two Thursdays, and is supposed to be there again tomorrow. I hope to be there at 8. There's always a risk he doesn't show, of course, but he's been storing his bass at the club, so I think that's a good sign. Note that he's been doing that for years (cf liner notes to Booker Ervin's Exultation). I hope to go regularly just to show my support. Maybe I'll see some organissimo members there one day. Bertrand. Quote
