Soul Stream Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 the last l.s. lp i dont have- how is it? how is it different from his other ones... It's the best. It kills. Psychedellic Pi...25 Miles...Spinning Wheel...7 Steps to Heaven...they're ALL badass. Get it yesterday. Quote
sidewinder Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 Just listening to it. Grooves like hell. I like the cover art too. Quote

sidewinder Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 well ive never seen it-- think itll be reissued ever? I think it already has. As a 'Rare Groove'. On vinyl too ! Quote
brownie Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 Listened to that one earlier today (hadn't spinned it in quite a long time) and it IS good. Specially like the Lonnie Smith solo that concludes 'Spinning Wheel'. Can't stand that tune anymore but Liston Smith brought a new dimension there! Liner notes are by Stanley Dance. Can't remember Stanley Dance doing other liner notes for BN! Quote
JSngry Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 I like Drives well enough, but of his BNs, it and Turning Point seem just a little less focused than the others. Just a little. A totally useless bit of trivia - Down Beat gave this one a very enthusiastic ***** review, and used it as a "free gift" for new subscibers ca. 1971. Imagine that - subscribe to Down Beat and get a free Blue Note! Quote

Lonnie Smith is the organist who now goes under the moniker Dr. Lonnie Smith (maybe to seperate him even moresofrom Lonnie Liston Smith). Quote

My needle and ears were on the right tracks, my mind was somewhere else That often happens when you put a needle on the tracks. Or so I've heard... Just to try again to get the sleeve to come out I love the album. Yes, it's not QUITE as good as his top stuff but the difference is so marginal as to be not worth worrying about. Don't buy it yesterday - buy it in 1970! MG Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 Liner notes are by Stanley Dance. Can't remember Stanley Dance doing other liner notes for BN! Stanley did the notes to Grant Green's "Carryin' on", "Alive" and Reuben Wilson's "Blue Mode". Probably others I can't think of at present. MG Quote
