brownie Posted November 18, 2006 Report Posted November 18, 2006 Don't think this has been posted here before! This is the 33 minutes program recorded for Belgian TV at Liege on April 19, 1964 by the Charles Mingus quintet with Eric Dolphy, Clifford Jordan, Jaki Byard and Dannie Richmond. Opening of the video shows the musicians arriving by coach from Paris where they had appeared two days before at concerts that have been released as The Great Paris Concert. Mingus Liege 1964 Quote

brownie Posted November 19, 2006 Author Report Posted November 19, 2006 Serge Leroy who gets is named as director for the video went on to become a full fledged motion picture director with a number of successful films. He died several years ago. I met him when he was a student at the French film school IDHEC and we both attended film showings at the Paris Cinematheque in the late fifties. He was a film and jazz fan at the time. Had no idea he had made this Mingus film! Quote
