Hello all,

just noticed this reissue on Mighty Quinn. Didn't see any discussion about it over here. Did someone actually buy a copy? If so how is it and how is the sound? I think I'll buy it as well but just to keep the discussion going and for Jerry!!!

Bought my vinyl copy from Fred Cohen's Jazz Record Center several years ago!

It was a mono copy and it came with an unglued second pair of mono UA red labels. Plus a single-page UA releases list!

Paul Quinichette ranked as President on my list of favorite players!

First edition was titled 'Like Who' (same cover as the 'Like Basie' one shown earlier). This was UAL 4054 and copyrighted 1959.

Second edition's front cover bore two huge letters P for Paul and Q for Quinichette and had no other album title. It was a white as the original cover was black. Catalogue number is UAL 4077. Same tracks list. 1960 copyright.

Had a close look at my UA copy. It has the 'Like Who' cover - looks more like 'Like Wha' actually - but the labels read 'Like Basie'. The spare labels that came along read 'Like Who'

Wonder how much this is worth nowadays

At one time I had an original copy on LP. My copy of the Mighty Quinn reissue on CD arrived a few days ago.

The sound is fine. I have always enjoyed this one as well as the Quinchette on Dawn and the two on Prestige. All four have that Basie feeling, while the others he did on Prestige with Trane and with Sonny Red

veer away in a different direction though I like them as well.

I really like his recordings from the early 50s, paired with Lockjaw in the Basie band. I also recommend the verve elite if it can be found. Good small group early 50s Basie:
