brownie Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 Geller's 'Gypsy' is strongly recommended. Great blowing date with Scott LaFaro and Elvin Jones! The only weakness on the date are the tunes from that Broadway show. Quote

Cliff Englewood Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 Are all those Atlantic's listed really 24 Bit remastered? If so by who, and where or maybe even how? I'd be interested in the following; WPCR 25151(New)24 bit Tristano,Lennie(p)/Tristano* 2310 WPCR 25152(New)24 bit Konitz,Lee(as)/Lee Konitz with Warne Marsh* 2310 WPCR 25155(New)24 bit Charles,Teddy(vib)/Teddy Charles Tentet* 2310 WPCR 25159(New)24 bit Mitchell,Red(b) & Harold Land(ts)/Hear Ye Hear Ye* 2310 Any more info would be appreciated. etherbored Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 swing journal does state that they're newly remastered to 24/96 standards, but it doesn't state by whom... -e- Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted December 10, 2006 Report Posted December 10, 2006 Thanks for that etherbored, it's just that I would be a bit suspicious about claims of re-mastering classic Atlantic stuff, I mean, has anyone actually heard any improvement in sound quality on previous reissues and how would they get their hands on the original tapes? And a lot of tapes were destroyed in the Atlantic warehouse fire; I don't know which ones of the above list (if any), though. Edited December 10, 2006 by J.A.W. Quote
Cliff Englewood Posted December 10, 2006 Report Posted December 10, 2006 "And a lot of tapes were destroyed in the Atlantic warehouse fire; I don't know which ones of the above list (if any), though." That's what I thought and was kinda implying, how can any Atlantic stuff ever really be re-mastered? I think it's good that I can now get a copy of "Hear Ye Hear Ye" for example, but I doubt it'll sound anything other than ok. Quote

They surfaced on an Atlantic CD back in 1989 with two previously unreleased tracks. That CD sounded much better than the original mono LP! Not really unusual for Atlantic vinyls! Quote

etherbored Posted December 10, 2006 Report Posted December 10, 2006 from what i understand, they use their own copy of the master in many cases... -e- Quote
