Rooster_Ties Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 Yup, I sure did. (Just checking 12 hours of activitiy on the board that I missed, before catching up on PM's.) Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 I think this is fixed now. It was not the board software it was the server. I was online until about 6:30am last night and I could not send or receive any messages from Outlook using my organissimo account because of a socket error. I just logged on and sent all my unsent messages from last night with no problems so hopefully whatever was wrong is done. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 Hmmm... just tried it an it's not working. I believe the messages are going thru, just no email verification and the error screen. Will talk to my server dude. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 Well, I can't send messages again in Outlook or receive them for that matter. Before this happened I shot an email out to my server guy. Hopefully they're on the case. I need my email to be up. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 Just got news that Ken is upgrading the servers today. So don't be surprised if this site goes down for a little while. Please be patient. Thank you! Quote
DrJ Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 I just tried to send a PM and it's still not working - figured I'd mention it since it's now Sept 10 and I figure the updates are probably complete. Quote
J.A.W. Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 I sent three PMs today and everything seems to be fine. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 I posted to a couple threads earlier this morning, and got the same errors as before (see my most recent post in this thread). Presumably this is the same error people are getting with PM's. And, now that I think of it - I think I tried to send a PM last last night, and got the same error too. Quote

I'm sure that it probably went though, but I dutifully hit the "back" button on my brouser, and am now posting again (probably resulting in a duplicate, except for these added comments, below the line of "===="). The error: Mail Error! SMTP protocol failure! Host: localhost Return Code: Return Msg: Invision Power Board Error: Could not open a socket to the SMTP server Check your SMTP settings from the admin control panel Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 (edited) I just sent a PM and got the same Sprockets error (would you like to touch my monkey? but I am assuming that it still arrived. I don't have a problem posting though. And still no e-mail notifications of PMs received. EDIT: I DO have a problem posting, I got the same weird error message now, but since I've seen people getting snookered into multiple postings, I didn't use the back button so I avoided padding my total there. Really not good though. Edited September 10, 2003 by Dan Gould Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 Yeah, it's weird. It's been going off and on. Sometimes I would post last night and it would be fine, sometimes I'd get the error. I'm fairly certain it's with the server, not this software. I'm still waiting to hear from Ken. Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 I sent three PMs today and everything seems to be fine. You must be mistaken.....I didn't receive any of them. (I keep getting that 'error' message too.......hope the other guy in Europe who sent me a message (re: Booker Ervin) received my response?????) Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 The error message just means he won't get an email telling him there's a PM waiting. The PM does go through. I'm still waiting to hear from my server guy, Ken. Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 The PM does go through. Guess that means I can stop swearing and hitting the send button 60 or 70 times, huh? Quote
JohnS Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 Still having problems today. Getting a mail not sent error message. Quote
vajerzy Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 Same here- Uncle Skid- I responded to your PM.... Quote

Daniel A Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 I've been using the PM function more than ever today, and it seems to be working every time, in spite of the error message. If you want to be sure the message reches its destination, check the box 'Track this message' at the bottom of the page of the message you're about to send. Then you may use the 'Message Tracker' (found in the Messenger menu) to check if and when the recipient read the message. Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 I think its basically been established that PMs are delivered and that the error message received is related only to the e-mail notification that a message has been received. So, basically, people simply should refrain from using the back button to "try again" as it only results in multiple copies of the same PM being delivered. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 I got an email from Ken saying that we shouldn't have any more problems. Obviously we are, so I emailed him back to explain the situation. Hopefully it will be resolved soon. Thank you for your patience. Quote
catesta Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 I'm beginning to like it the way it is. Sending a PM is more than just sending a PM, it's become an adventure. Quote
randissimo Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 Yeah it's still messed up... I just tried to email Joe G and it didn't work... Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 (edited) Sending a PM is more than just sending a PM, it's become an adventure. Yeah, its repetitive and redundant, too. Edited September 11, 2003 by Dan Gould Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 I've posted a couple of times tonight (11/9). Both times I've got 'Mail not sent' messages. Last time when I resent it also resent a post from a couple of hours back which led to a double posts (which I've since deleted). Odd. I've never used the PM function here so it can't be that! Quote
