Bluesman Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 The good news is that this terrific session with Teddy Edwards is finally on CD. The bad news is it is only available from an Italian label called Lilith. Does anyone know this label? Given that Verve seem to have ceased releasing this kind of material it may be the only way to get it. Quote

Bluesman Posted October 25, 2006 Author Report Posted October 25, 2006 AMG crashes my I.Explorer/Computer For those allergic to AMG: "For this stellar 1972 release on Verve, the Organ Grinder accompanied by Leroy Vinnegar, Teddy Edwards, Ray Crawford, Donald Dean and Victor Pantoja comes home to where it all began: the blues. These high spirited and relaxed sessions give each musician the chance to stretch out over a tantalizingly funky blues that features five Smith originals along with Harvey Siders' "Mournin' Wes," a tribute to friend and fellow musician Wes Montgomery." 1 Straight Ahead 2 Lolita 3 Absolutely Funky 4 Mournin' Wes 5 Blues for 3+1 6 Bluesmith Quote
CJ Shearn Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 is this a legit release on CD or a boot? Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 is this a legit release on CD or a boot? A firm that tried to boot this through the legit industry would be out of its tiny mind. Haven't heard this one, but "It's necessary" also features Teddy and Ray Crawford on one (live) track and it's a blast. Definitely in my November list. MG Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 This is a good disc, but it features Leroy Vinnegar on bass! Jimmy ain't kickin' the pedals. It's still good, though. Very bluesy (hence the title) and Mournin' Wes is a nice tribute. Quote
Parkertown Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 Great photo of the band set up in the studio in the gatefold of the Lp... Quote
