RDK Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 Don't want to step on Mr. Bassman's sign-up thread, but since you're all in the BFT forum anyway... Still a couple of turns away, but I'm prepping BFT 44 and had a question for y'all. I vaguely recall this issue brought up before with some disagreement, but how again does everyone feel about rare or unreleased stuff included on the BFTs? More specifically, I was considering including at least one disc of material taken from LPs that aren't yet on CD. If i remember, a few people didn't like the idea of not being able to buy something that they heard and liked on a BFT. Personally, I dig the rare stuff, but that's just me. I make no promises yet as to what i may decide to do - maybe one disc of LP-only stuff, maybe both or neither - but I'll cetainly take any suggestions into account. Quote
Stereojack Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 Go for it! As long as the music is worth hearing, I don't think it matters what the source is. Quote
Mr. Bassman Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 Don't want to step on Mr. Bassman's sign-up thread, but since you're all in the BFT forum anyway... no problem with this kind of stepping on .... I can only speak for myself.... I am interested in the music, no matter what sources you use .... and we <maniacs> will always get the stuff... sometimes it is a bit hard to get a certain record. But for the BFT, I think all sources are allowed .... because all tunes will be on a CD with regards Mr. Bassman Quote
Dan Gould Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 I've certainly gone for rare and unissued things on my BFTs. I'd say go for it, Ray. Quote
mikeweil Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 Anything is fine with me ..... you take the choices! Quote
tjobbe Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 Anything is fine with me ..... .... wait Mike, he might start singing......but else, anything you want Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 Yeah, go for what you want. It's your disc; your taste; your views. If we hear a musician we've never heard before, well there's probably other stuff to get of that person. And one day, it will all be free BFT41 was mostly live stuff off places I don't go and never knew (know) about. But it was good to hear the stuff, even the stuff I didn't like. MG Quote

king ubu Posted October 29, 2006 Report Posted October 29, 2006 Sure, sounds like a good idea! My BFT included merely a track you could buy, and I think I didn't get any negative reactions because of that! Quote
mikeweil Posted November 4, 2006 Report Posted November 4, 2006 Ray, are you aware you moved up a month? Quote
RDK Posted November 5, 2006 Author Report Posted November 5, 2006 Ray, are you aware you moved up a month? I do now! I should be okay as I've gathered the tunes, just need to xfer them from LP. Fortunately, just yesterday I got my computer back up and running from a HD crash. Quote

Still a couple of turns away, but I'm prepping BFT 44 and had a question for y'all. Hi RDK, You're talking about BFT # 44 - I guess you mean the BFT # 43 issued in December? When you go to the upcoming BFTs you'll learn that you're in for # 43 and I am on the roll for # 44. (January 2007) Keep swinging Durium Quote
mikeweil Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 (edited) Durium, he started this thread before you all moved up a step after the member originally scheduled for December had to cancel. Edited November 17, 2006 by mikeweil Quote

sidewinder Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Go for it - and the rarer the vinyl the better.. Quote
RDK Posted November 17, 2006 Author Report Posted November 17, 2006 Go for it - and the rarer the vinyl the better.. Yeah, it'll be two discs of vinyl rips, but I'm not sure just how "rare" some of the tracks will be. My original intent was to stick with stuff that hasn't made it to CD, but between imports, bootlegs, and oop discs, that turned out to be unworkable. It's really quite impressive to realize just how much jazz music - so long unattainable in the vinyl era - has been released at least somewhere on CD over the last twenty years! At the very least it'll be stuff that I don't have on CD. Quote
