The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 What a great montage that was. And I MUST get to see Rhoda live. So who was playing in carpet slippers, then? MG Quote

Jim Alfredson Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 Yes, Korla Pandit. He used to play a lot on the Ed Sullivan Show, I think. Here's a bio: http://www.korlapandit.com/biography.htm Sidenote: I hate websites that use white text on black backgrounds. It completely messes with my eyes. Quote

makpjazz57 Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 (edited) Thanks! The only problem with checking out recommended videos is that once I get to Youtube, it is addicting and 2 jazz hours later, I'm wondering why it is almost 2 a.m. and I'm not asleep yet... I also checked out some Lee Morgan, Jimmy Smith, Freddie Hubbard, Benny Green, Maynard Ferguson, Stanley Turrentine. Marla Edited December 7, 2006 by makpjazz57 Quote

JSngry Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 DON'T LOOK INTO HIS EYES! HE'LL HYPNOTIZE YOU!!! Dude, I saw a Korla Pandit 78 once at a flea market. Has a little picture of his head on the label. I passed. But now, actually having heard him, I wish I'd picked it up. Just for the label. Quote

So, 12:30 a.m. in Kansas City, I think, equals 1:30 a.m. where I am outside of Boston! I loved the Jimmy Smith video with the Blue Note Big Band doing "Moanin'". What a classic! I think it was the Mt. Fuji Jazz Fest. I have a few other full-length videos from Mt. Fuji - all the highest quality of music including the Jazz Messengers edition with Benny Green, Javon Jackson and I think Bobby Watson was guesting at that time, since it was well after the Watson/Ponamarev, etc. edition of the Messengers. Soul Stream Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 I actually thought the Korla Pandit clip was very interesting. He was doing some amazing things on the organ. Very cool. I'd like to hear more from him. Quote
