Imo, the logical continuation would be to go on to 1600, etc. Instead they started the 4000 series. The first Lp in that series was BLP 4001, Sonny Rollins - Newk's Time (recorded on 9/22/57). I don't think 1500 and 4000 were released side by side : most recording date of the 4000 are from 11,12 / 58, 1/59 etc... Actually, BLP 4002, Jimmy Smith - House Party was recorded on 2/25/57 & 8/25/57. In comparison, BLP 1593, Lou Donaldson - Blues Walk was recorded on 7/28/58. But all of this is somewhat secondary to me; I'd rather know why Lion and Wolff started the 4000 series when they could've just made a transition from the 1500 series onto 1600 and on. Perhaps Blue Note found that this duplication between LP's and singles was causing confusion at the distribution level, and so they began the 4000 series.
