John B
I'd also recommend Cold Heat: Heavy Funk Rarities 1968-1974, Vol. 1, which is their "follow up" to 16 Corners as well as their Midwest Funk and Texas Funk compilations. Their website says that Funky 16 Corners has recently been remastered using more original source tapes.
Noj
The entire Funkaphonix series on Electrostatic and the Natural Funky series on Soul Patrol are my favorites. They go out of stock fast on Dusty Groove, but they're all worth checking out. I also like the BGP comps such as King Funk or Westbound Funk or Superfunk or Get Your Lie Straight. John B
The Numero Group label has been releasing some fantastic discs that, while not purely funk, would be worth your while to explore. I love all of their releases that I have heard: Good God! A Gospel Funk Hymnal Cult Cargo: Belize City Boil Up Eccentric Soul: The Bandit Label Eccentric Soul : The Capsoul Label Eccentric Soul : The Deep City Label Edited December 11, 2006 by John B
Noj
I haven't heard of those John, now I'm on the hunt! There's also some cool 2cd sets called The First Days Of Funk from the Electrostatic folks, but they're a bit spottier than the Funkaphonix discs. Black Chains & Exhaust is another good one. The Dusty Fingers series on Strictly Break Records is fun too. In addition, they put out those sample-give-away records with songs sampled by De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, and others. John B
I haven't heard of those John, now I'm on the hunt! Do a label search for Numero Group over at the Aquariusrecords website. They have sound clips for all of these discs. I really think you'd like them, given what I know of your tastes. The label puts out a very high quality release. Lots of research and well written liner notes, too. Noj
All I had to see was Michael Liggins! "Loaded To The Gills" is a favorite. That Spanish funk rock comp looks good too. I'm going to order them for sure. Thanks John!

Good to hear it, because the thread I read elsewhere had a number of complaints about cards charged, items never received, lousy customer service ,etc.- mainly when going through buy.com. Maybe I'll reconsider if I can ever access the site.
John B
I just received a compilation called Barrio Nuevo from Dustygroove and highly recommend it to people who enjoyed What it is. Latin funk, rock and soul from the 1970's. Some very, very nice tracks. Edited December 20, 2006 by John B
