danasgoodstuff Posted April 28, 2016 Report Posted April 28, 2016 Such a great song, even my ineptitude can't screw it up to bad; and Ornette's performance on SofJtoC is riveting, IMHO Quote

JSngry Posted April 28, 2016 Report Posted April 28, 2016 What about that spookyroaring livebootleg (first on Joker, iirc) version by Ornette with a quartet of Izenzon AND Haden? Is that still around with any convenience? And yeah, Jeff, play on! Quote

robertoart Posted April 29, 2016 Report Posted April 29, 2016 The original version will do just fine and forever. Zorn's take is down town hipster proselytising. Colonising the not mine but look kids now it is. Quote
Milestones Posted April 29, 2016 Report Posted April 29, 2016 Charlie Haden, Don Cherry, and Ed Blackwell on Haden's "Montreal Tapes." Quote
king ubu Posted May 3, 2016 Report Posted May 3, 2016 I like the vocal version on Ayelet Rose Gottlieb's "Internal External" (her debut album, I think - has Matana Roberts in the line-up, before she got her break) Quote

'Lonely Woman' is a gorgeous tune (or harmony!). Quote
paul secor Posted May 3, 2016 Report Posted May 3, 2016 There's a version of "Lonely Woman" on the Jazz Doctors; Intensive Care LP. Not a favorite version, but it's good. Quote
medjuck Posted May 3, 2016 Report Posted May 3, 2016 The edition I have of the first Jeanne Lee and Ran Blake record has some bonus live tracks including a nice version of Ornette's Lonely Woman. BTW as well as the Horace Silver song with the same title IIRC there is a Benny Carter song with that same title. Quote
StarThrower Posted May 19, 2016 Report Posted May 19, 2016 Pierre Dorge & New Jungle Orchestra from the DeCapo release, Giraf. The entire album is filled with great music and performances! Quote

clifford_thornton Posted May 19, 2016 Report Posted May 19, 2016 I have not dug out that Jazz Doctors LP in ages, and should do so again. Quote
six string Posted May 24, 2016 Report Posted May 24, 2016 I like Frank Kimbrough's version on his cd of the same name on Mapleshade. I like every version I have heard, I think. The MJQ version is up there for me these days. Quote
