rockefeller center Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 (edited) M.A.M.E. Marble Madness ROM Save the ROM file in MAME's ROM drawer (do not unzip it!). Edited January 9, 2004 by rockefeller center Quote
Kari S Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 CALIFORNIA GAMES... B3-er, are you familiar with emulators? Basically every single console, arcade and computer imaginable has an emulator these days with almost every game released available on the internet. The problem is, that at least those C64 emulators I've tried are a bit hard to use. For arcade games, that M.A.M.E thing somebody mentioned is the best, it emulates probably hundreds of games, some even up to this day. Two great C64 sites, the best IMO: - Lemon64 - has info on all the games, plus screenshots, adverts and the best of all, music! - C64.com - download the games here Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted January 9, 2004 Author Report Posted January 9, 2004 Wow. That MAME emulator program is absolutely amazing. I'm having the time of my life playing old arcade shooters (they just don't make 'em like they used too). I need to hook a joystick up to this computer! The CSS64 Commodore 64 emulator is the best one and it's not hard to use at all. I highly recommend it. Quote
rockefeller center Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 Some other Commodore related links: C64: http://www.ccs64.com/ http://www.server3-amiga-island.de/html/c6...iele_von_a.html http://www.c64unlimited.net/ AMIGA: http://www.winuae.net/ http://www.server3-amiga-island.de/html/amiga-games_a.html The Amiga emulator can be a pain to configure properly. Jazz Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 Hey does anyone remember Infocom? I love Infocom games... Quote
Free For All Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 I was a teenage Battle Zone addict. Also Tempest, Galaxian and Defender. More recently I became hooked on Doom and Quake. These days I don't do games at all. I spend my free time here. Quote
chris Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 Never been a big gamer, though we had an Atari 2600 and then I had a succession of computers: Vic 20, TI-99/4A, Commodore 64, Apple II, Gigantic PC Jr., etc... nowadays I play online card games and pool with family occasionally, FIFA Soccer on the PS2 with my kids-- but I too spend the rest of my time here and in various discussion forums... I think discussion boards *are* the videogames (or more accurately the text adventures) for a particular segment of computer users But I sure do miss the old days of computing when things (in general) were a lot more fun! Jim Alfredson Posted February 10, 2004 Author Report Posted February 10, 2004 Bringing this up because of sal's recent thread right here. My brother and I have been playing Diablo II: Lord of Destruction since it came out about 4 years ago... online, playing together. It has excellent replay value. Why they haven't made a game like Diablo but based in a more Fallout-type world is beyond me. That would be SWEET! Has anyone seen the movies for Half-Life 2? That game looks absolutely INCREDIBLE! I won't be able to play it, however, unless I put together a totally new computer! Doom3 looks amazing too as well as the next Halo. I need to get another Xbox. Quote
sal Posted February 10, 2004 Report Posted February 10, 2004 Wow...I didn't know Half Life 2 was coming out. The first Half Life has to be my favorite first person shooter of all time. Great online and in single player mode! Thanks for that tip b3-er....I'll be watching for that one. Quote

Yeah, I've got the same problem. I won't be able to play any of the new games coming out unless I upgrade...which I really do not need to do right now! I mean, c'mon...there's just entirely too much good music that I don't have! However, the new Half Life and Doom games do indeed look stunning... Edited February 10, 2004 by street singer Quote
Dr. Rat Posted February 10, 2004 Report Posted February 10, 2004 Zork!! A lot of Infocom games are available online here. --eric Quote

FALLOUT however remains engrossing even through multiple replays. I've been hacking my way through the baddies in DUNGEON SIEGE lately. I work on it every week or so. My son got the sequel LEGENDS OF ARIANNA for X-mas. He's gone through it already. Much superior to DIABLO, I think, but it has borrowed heavily from it. My favorite game of all-time remains FALLOUT. Wish they would do another sequel. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 11, 2004 Author Report Posted February 11, 2004 Conn, The replay value in Diablo is based on finding items. The game is way more fun online, playing with other people. The joy is in finding rare items and runes and trading and such. I wish they would make a game like Diablo, but set in a Fallout-type world, complete with full multiplayer support. That would be the schizzle. Quote

Singleplayer mode is pretty dull after you've gone through it once. I keep dreaming about a sequel to FALLOUT... Quote
street singer Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 I keep dreaming about a sequel to FALLOUT... There actually was a sequel to Fallout released a few years ago. Should still be easy to find...and at a good price, I imagine. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 It wasn't a sequel at all. It was game called something like, FALLOUT TACTICS or something of the sort. I did play a demo and did not care for it. It was set up where there was a series of prearranged skirmishes and you had to tactically position your men to take them out. The character were preformed, and there was no story line. I believe the orginal FALLOUT creators have been spread around the pc gaming industry working for different companies. There will never likely be a followup to FALLOUT. Anyone into AGE OF EMPIRES and its sequels? Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 11, 2004 Author Report Posted February 11, 2004 There was Fallout and Fallout2. Fallout2 was a true sequel to the first. There are rumors that Fallout3 is in development. You play Diablo online through Battle.net which is one of the options when you start the game. Click the "Battlenet" button and make an account. The shitty thing is, since you've never played online, you've probably never updated the game so the first thing it'll do on Battlenet is automatically download a patch for the game. They are up to version 1.10 and you have to have the newest version to play online. It's a relatively big download, but worth it. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 Thanks for the info, Jim. I'll wait till late night when I can tie up my computer to check it out. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 11, 2004 Author Report Posted February 11, 2004 So which Fallout did you play, Conn? The first one or the second one? Both are great games. Quote

You're right about Fallout Tactics - it was a strategy game. However, there was indeed a sequel to Fallout. See below for a review...
