Soulstation1 Posted March 8, 2007 Author Report Posted March 8, 2007 since the departed won the oscar, i'd expect a new edition / packaging of it even though, there are two editions available Quote
Alexander Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 I saw this in the theatre and recently rented it on DVD. I have to say, it loses a LOT when seen on a small screen. This may account for so many people being unimpressed when watching it recently. On the big screen, it simply EXPLODED. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted March 9, 2007 Author Report Posted March 9, 2007 the departed is still in the cheap theaters in town i've got to see it one more time on the big screen Quote
Big Al Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 Finally got around to watching this yesterday. I really enjoyed it, not a jaw-dropper..but good solid entertainment with above-average performances. The pacing was excellent, not often that a near 3 hour film cruises by this quickly. I like most of Marty's films, so I'm not sure where I would rank it in the grand scheme of things. I definitely enjoyed it more than most of his post-Good Fellas films. I thought DiCaprio was impressive. Saw this last night and I basically agree, except I hated the ending. I'm supposed to believe that they spent the first two hours explaining everything in detail, to only have it wrapped up just like that? (Being deliberately vague so as not to ruin it for those who haven't seen it) The ending felt more like a cop-out (no pun intended), and I felt had, the way I felt after watching AMERICAN BEAUTY (another Best Picture winner, go figure!). Eloe Omoe Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 side Q2: are there are George V. Higgins readers here? Count me in. I'm Higgins' Italian translator, so I think I've read (and worked on) most of his novels. And I still think that The Friends of Eddie Coyle is one of the really great American novels of the 20th century (after James Crumley's The Last Good Kiss, of course -which I also had the pleasure and joy of translating into Italian ) luca Quote
Quincy Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 (edited) Saw this last night and I basically agree, except I hated the ending. You might want to check out the original Infernal Affairs (Mou gaan dou.) The ending isn't as "western," and there are some other differences too. And since you'll recognize what's going on you can be sloppier about reading the subtitles. Edited March 18, 2007 by Quincy Quote
