agriffith Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 Hello all, I will be visiting Boston for a few days in about a week and I wondered if anyone here could recommend some good second-hand record stores in the area. Looking for jazz (of course) and maybe classical. Also gospel! Thanks to all that reply! Quote
robviti Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 (edited) stereo jack's should be your first stop. they're located across the river in cambridge at 1686 massachusetts ave. between harvard and porter squares. nearby, there's planet records at 54B jfk street in harvard square. in boston, there's looney tunes at 1106 boylston street (a block from mass ave.) you might also consider stopping at one of the newbury comics locations. they feature new and used cds. use the store locator on their website: newbury stores Edited October 2, 2006 by jazzshrink Quote
AllenLowe Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 my favorite - Stereo Jack's (Jack posts here occassionally) - on Mass Ave just outside of Harvard Square - plenty of LPs, CDs, great selection, good prices - Quote

They blare the latest crap from Incubus or whoever all the time. Kids these days! Third the recommendations for Jack's. I miss it! Edited October 2, 2006 by Big Wheel Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 Another enthusiastic vote for Jack's, both in terms of selection and price. I hope you do vinyl! Their vinyl selection is terrific. Quote
Dan Gould Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 When my wife and I went to Boston for a couple of days a year ago in June, Jack's was the one place we made it to other than the Fine Arts Museum and Fenway Park and it was well worth it. Quote
agriffith Posted October 3, 2006 Author Report Posted October 3, 2006 Cool! Will definitely try to hit Stereo Jacks, if not the others as well. Thanks so much! Quote
bertrand Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 If I ever go to Boston again in my life (I think I was 9 last time I went), I know I will need to visit! Bertrand. Quote
Randy Twizzle Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 I visited Stereo Jack's this summer and bought this album among others. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 I lived in Beantown for many years and for a good chunk of my time there I would hit Stereo Jack’s once a week. I remember trudging through the snow from my day gig in Harvard Square salivating at the thought of what I’d find. I’d often end up walking out of there with an armload of LPs for under $50. “I can’t believe your prices!” I’d exclaim. “We’re a record store, not a museum. We price ’em to move.” And when I would indulge in the periodic requisite sacrifice to the Record Gods, I’d choose to plunk down the big bucks at Jack’s, as a thank you for all those incredible dollar LPs I’d accumulated. BruceH Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 To be precise, Stereo Jack's is in Porter Square, just up the Red Line from Harvard Square. Don't miss it!! Quote

It's between Harvard and Porter, but slightly closer to Porter. I trudged through the snow too many times from both directions. Quote
bertrand Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 That Onion story hits way too close to home. Bertrand. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 So agriffith, what did you end up finding at Stereo Jack's? Quote
