jazzman4133 Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 Today I got all excited when I found a download in Russia for Cannonball and Sergio Mendes and the Bossa Rio Trio. I have the album "Cannonball's Bossa Nova" but had forgotten that Sergio & the Bossa Rio trio were on this album and a little research in "Google" discovered that it was one and the same. What was interesting was the number of covers this album has. I'll post as many as I can on this post and if they don't all fit I'll continue them on the next post. Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 Cover #2 Cover #3 It was also released on the Everest label in the 1970s. I think it had the same track sequence but screwed up a few of the titles. Quote

GA Russell Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 If one can bump the desert island list from five to ten, this would be on mine. As the 1968 Capitol album cover points out, Bossa Rio was a sextet, not a trio. Quote

chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 why are there so many versions of this. its really not that good an album Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 why are there so many versions of this. its really not that good an album Well, it's certainly a cut above many of the pop or jazz bossa cash-ins that were common to that period. I'm not sure how something on Riverside ended up on Capitol. But the fact that both Mendes and Cannonball were on Capitol and Pickwick licensed lots of capitol stuff, that explains at least 5 of the 10 or so variations! Quote

But the fact that both Mendes and Cannonball were on Capitol and Pickwick licensed lots of capitol stuff, that explains at least 5 of the 10 or so variations! I like it a lot! Good commercial music! What happened was that Riverside went bust. Part of the deal for the creditors was that Capitol bought Cannonball's contract and included were seven of Cannonball's masters. The others, as far as I know were Them dirty blues At the Lighthouse Cannonball takes charge Jazz Workshop revisited Cannonball in Europe The pollwinners MG Quote
