Want to throw up this idea.

It seems that there are more and more posts devoted to ebay auctions in this section. I've always maintained that we've all got our ebay search engines and don't really need to see these messages. Nevertheless, they are gaining in popularity.

Here's a suggestion: can we subdivide the offering/looking for section into 1. offerings to Organissimo posters and 2. ebay auction reminders? That way, I wouldn't waste my time reading the ebay stuff. Many of the ebay reminders don't give the hint in the subject title, and I read them and say, "aw shucks, nothing special for us members. It's open to the whole world....who cares?"

I hope no one gets offended by this suggestion. Go ahead and point out your ebay auctions. I would just like to see a separate subcategory for them, that's all.

IMHO, there's no need to have separate forums, as long as people notate things correctly in the subject line.

Naah, that'd be way too easy.

People just don't do it, for whatever reason.

...yet you think they'll get it in the right sub-forum? Sorry, my cynicism gets the best of me. I'm all for public flogging of people who can't get it right.

I agree. It's a small inconvenence otherwise, and there are already (imo) too many separate forums.

I don't really see the point of "pimpin my ebay" on this board, anyway... I'd prefer to just have real sales that are directly done via this board and not have the ebay spam here, too... or indeed, not just a "FA" in the subject, rather just put the word "ebay" right in the subject, so that anyone clearly sees it. May be my non-english native problem, but it took me a while to figure out all those annoying abbreviations, anyway. NMCOT, IMHO, AFAIC... I still don't know what GOP means, just that it involves some elected gorilla...

I don't mind regular board members posting their Ebay auctions here, as long as the threads are clearly identified as such in the topic, and members don't flood the forum with seperate threads for every item.

when i auction items on ebay, i post them here as a service to the community. when i have neglected to do so, i've gotten complaints from members that go: "i wish i had known" and "damn, i've been looking for that one!" i have no objection to creating a separate forum, but i think a simple "FA" in the title should suffice. i don't appreciate it when someone puts a "for sale" sign on items that are being auctioned. i agree that people should delete their thread after the auction has ended. i also wish people selling their stuff would edit their lists promptly to avoid any unnecessary heartbreak. ^_^

There's really not enough volume of traffic to warrant a whole new sub-category and even if there were, there'd still be those who saw it as a great opportunity to get even more exposure by posting auctions in both categories anyway.

It's not that big of deal to me and just seems to me to be a minor inconvenience to those whom it does matter. I agree though that the distinction should be noted in the title of the post.

I completely agree with everything in this post. :tup

Who's to say that the people who already can't be bothered to to notate auctions correctly, will suddenly be able to get their auction threads started in the right sub-forum.

Don't fix what ain't broken enough to need fixing.
