connoisseur series500 Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Want to throw up this idea. It seems that there are more and more posts devoted to ebay auctions in this section. I've always maintained that we've all got our ebay search engines and don't really need to see these messages. Nevertheless, they are gaining in popularity. Here's a suggestion: can we subdivide the offering/looking for section into 1. offerings to Organissimo posters and 2. ebay auction reminders? That way, I wouldn't waste my time reading the ebay stuff. Many of the ebay reminders don't give the hint in the subject title, and I read them and say, "aw shucks, nothing special for us members. It's open to the whole world....who cares?" I hope no one gets offended by this suggestion. Go ahead and point out your ebay auctions. I would just like to see a separate subcategory for them, that's all. Quote
felser Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 I totally agree with your idea and rationale. Quote
riverrat Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Great idea. Hope it comes to pass. Quote
Brad Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 I think that's a good idea. Either that or recommend that people identify it as such in the header. Quote
Peter Johnson Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 I get annoyed when the subject says, "FS: Rare OOP Blue Note CD" and the post is in fact a link to an auction. Simply changing the "FS" to a "FA" would solve this problem, I think. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 IMHO, there's no need to have separate forums, as long as people notate things correctly in the subject line. Quote
Dmitry Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 (edited) IMHO, there's no need to have separate forums, as long as people notate things correctly in the subject line. Naah, that'd be way too easy. Edited September 24, 2006 by Dmitry Quote

Naah, that'd be way too easy. People just don't do it, for whatever reason. ...yet you think they'll get it in the right sub-forum? Sorry, my cynicism gets the best of me. I'm all for public flogging of people who can't get it right. Quote
RDK Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 IMHO, there's no need to have separate forums, as long as people notate things correctly in the subject line. I agree. It's a small inconvenence otherwise, and there are already (imo) too many separate forums. Quote
etherbored Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 but they won't. so a subdivision or seperate header under the category titled "for auction" will solve the problem... -e- Quote
king ubu Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I don't really see the point of "pimpin my ebay" on this board, anyway... I'd prefer to just have real sales that are directly done via this board and not have the ebay spam here, too... or indeed, not just a "FA" in the subject, rather just put the word "ebay" right in the subject, so that anyone clearly sees it. May be my non-english native problem, but it took me a while to figure out all those annoying abbreviations, anyway. NMCOT, IMHO, AFAIC... I still don't know what GOP means, just that it involves some elected gorilla... Quote
Claude Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I don't mind regular board members posting their Ebay auctions here, as long as the threads are clearly identified as such in the topic, and members don't flood the forum with seperate threads for every item. Quote
king ubu Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I agree, Claude, but I happen to open threads offering Mosaic sets and only then seeing an ebay-link - that I don't like. GOP = grossly offending pigs? Quote
jazzhound Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 hawking ebay auctions on this site should be banned period! Quote
jazzbo Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I'm with Claude. Flurin: Grand Old (Ole) Party I believe. So old it should be dead. Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 it'd be nice if the folks offering sales etc cleaned the house every now and then. delete threads that are defunct or out of date as that is the only forum where that is warranted and start a new one if you are offering again. robviti Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 when i auction items on ebay, i post them here as a service to the community. when i have neglected to do so, i've gotten complaints from members that go: "i wish i had known" and "damn, i've been looking for that one!" i have no objection to creating a separate forum, but i think a simple "FA" in the title should suffice. i don't appreciate it when someone puts a "for sale" sign on items that are being auctioned. i agree that people should delete their thread after the auction has ended. i also wish people selling their stuff would edit their lists promptly to avoid any unnecessary heartbreak. Ron S Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Flurin: Grand Old (Ole) Party I believe. So old it should be dead. So what does that say about the Democratic Party? It's more than 50 years older. Quote
mikelz777 Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 (edited) There's really not enough volume of traffic to warrant a whole new sub-category and even if there were, there'd still be those who saw it as a great opportunity to get even more exposure by posting auctions in both categories anyway. It's not that big of deal to me and just seems to me to be a minor inconvenience to those whom it does matter. I agree though that the distinction should be noted in the title of the post. GA Russell Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Want to throw up this idea. I would have said either "throw out" or "offer up"!!! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Who's to say that the people who already can't be bothered to to notate auctions correctly, will suddenly be able to get their auction threads started in the right sub-forum. Don't fix what ain't broken enough to need fixing. Quote

Tony Pusey Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I think that a FA would do. But not sweet FA of course! I dont like auctions, would rather pay over the odds to a pal on this forum than play the auction game with snipers et al, so FA or a new topic? yes please. Quote
