Ouch, #3 is from one of my favourite Barney discs! Beautiful disc, mind me - but it's been a long time since I played it. Still hurts.

Glad I was able to pick out #1 - that disc is recommended to anyone who enjoys the Steven Bernstein Tzadik releases!

Bill De Arango is quite a surprise! I have only got a few ooold recordings where he is a sideman.

The Johnny "Hammond" Smith I bought in the recent zweitausendeins sales... played it once and didn't think it was that great....

Anyway, this was a terrific compilation and I'm looking forward to hearing it again being in the know next time!

10. Julian Dash, Zero (Dash-Lowe), from Saxomania: Honkers and Screamers, Charly CPCD8163.

Julian Dash, tenor sax; Ray Tunia, piano; Jimmy Oliver, guitar; Lee Stanfield, acoustic bass; Bill English, drums.

Recorded June 22, 1955.

Ah, I thought I had some of this guy in my collection. But it's mostly with Erskine Hawkins' Orchestra. And this is from one of the few honkers and screamers compiltions I haven't got. Something to rectify. Is this still available, I wonder.

Never would have guessed Kenton. Nice!

That's Dash, eh? Interesting. I've heard him on and off in various settings and timeframes, but not enough to pick him out. The 1955 date shoots my "pre-Lockjaw theory, but still, nice playing.

I usually dig Defunkt, but wasn't too crazy at all about this one.

Renato Geremia is a new name to me, but I very much liked what he(!) did on this one, save for the piano work.

Most enlightening!

Don't know about this Charly Cd (it's quite old), but there's a Blue Moon Cd that has most of those tracks (and more).

Hey, Luca--any word on when you were going to add comments to the track listings? I'm curious to hear what you have to say about them.

Very soon  I've recently moved, and my life is in a bit of a mess...
