Amen to that. Will have to pull out the vinyl slab later in the day.

Just been listening to that July 27th 2001 performance at 'Smoke'. Too bad that Big John and Eric Alexander weren't recorded in a rehearsed, studio environment - that would have been good.

Big John had more soul in his little finger than the summation of current R&B crew/rappers/deck-jockeys/hangers-on etc.. <_<

thanks for the info Shaft. I have the TOCJ and the Mosaic box version. It's just that I've got all the JRVG Patton's accept that one, and I feel somehow incomplete not having that as well. so your thumbs up for sound is a big plus.

I know what you mean. That feeling of incompletiveness has cost us a lot of money right?

I have the Soul Jazz 24-bit JRVG from 2000 (with the dark OBI). I don't know if there are any other JRVG editions of this?

Best of Luck anyway!

PS The Mosaic was a select?

This has been a proud piece of my vinyl collection since college. Used to play the title track on gigs with Pookie Johnson and Al Kiger.

Harold Vick and Blue got the feelin'. Blue's vibrato - soulsville.

I'm on my fourth copy of this; mono, stereo, TOCJ, then Mosaic. I got the first one in 1967, at the same time as "Along came John". I've played "Along came John" just a trifle more than "Oh baby", a good bit more than any of the other Pattons.

It's not because I LIKE them more, though. They just get out more :D

Thanks!

I got to get that "Along came John" album. Which version is the best?

/Shaft

I personally like the Patton JRVG's because I hear more detail in Grant's comping on them and also because they seem to have more BOT-TOM.

That's wild Michael! Cool to know that some of the material from this LP made the 'rounds at the clubs. Mike LeDonne told me he used to play "Oh Baby" as well with Joe Dukes since it was a real favorite of Joe's. Great songs on this LP.

I know I've said it before on the forum, but....John Patton told me "Oh Baby!" and "Along Came John" were his two favorite LPs he made.

As far as I know, "Fat Judy" is the only Soul Jazz tune mentioned in Science Fiction. It's in a Michael Moorcock book - I think "The entropy tango" (1981). This was very slightly before Acid Jazz took off.

YOU SHOULD PLAY THEM ALL AT ONCE>>>>> I TRIED THAT WITH INVISIBLE TOUCH ONCE, I PUT ON THE LP, CASSETTE, AND CD ALL AT THE SAME TIME- IT WAS KNARLY
