The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 I was having a look at Pete Fallico's new Doodlin' Lounge site and found he's started a record label. First release on Doodlin' Records is "From C to shining C" by Rhoda Scott, with Plas Johnson and Red Holloway on tenors, Carl Lockett, guitar, and Lucien Dobat, drums. Tracks are: Next time you see me Blues alley Monday Monday Danny boy/Lift every voice (an interesting medley) Waiting for the plane From C to shining C Reveries Tico tico (the old Ethel Smith number! WOW! That's even before Wild Bill) Hit the road Jack It's available from CDBaby - well, not quite, cos they say it's out of stock at present. She looks very good for her age, I think. Nice to find a great vet not on her last legs. Well, I've put my name on the list for when it comes back in. Anyone heard/got this? MG Quote

A great disc that is not to be missed is Very Saxy which features Ricky Ford on one disc and Houston Person on the other. I wonder if Plas and Red play together or separately. Dan Gould Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 (edited) The sample of "Monday Monday" is KILLER!!! Its like the polar opposite of "Stormy Monday Blues": Monday's here! Allright!! Edited September 11, 2006 by Dan Gould Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 11, 2006 Author Report Posted September 11, 2006 CD Baby just notified me that the new Rhoda Scott is back in stock! That was quick. Order gone in, also for the album advertised on the same page featuring Lonnie Smith that I hadn't heard of. MG Quote

They all say it's out of stock. For an album that's only been out a bit over a year... MG Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 Board member Brownie snagged a copy for me, iirc. Very unfortunate if its not readily available now. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 16, 2006 Author Report Posted September 16, 2006 (edited) "From C to shining C" turned up today. Very, very pleased with it. Mucho good playing; the sort that grows on you and turns your head round after you've heard it umpteen times already. MG Edited September 16, 2006 by The Magnificent Goldberg Quote
king ubu Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 Don't give up finding "Very Saxy", it's very good, indeed. I don't like Person that much, so I prefer the other disc a bit, but it's all very good, actually. I bought my copy in a store here, only one I saw... Quote
