Aftab Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 My preorder is already in! http://www.duttonvocalion.co.uk/ Can't wait til this hits the doorstep! Quote
John Tapscott Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 Yes! Mine too. MF Horn 4 & 5 is a recording that should have been out on CD a long time ago. It is very good, IMHO. Quote

shaft Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 Preordered too. It does not seem to be available for prorder anywhere else? Is this reissuer really special for UK and don't distribute so much all over the world to other retailers. My first contact with them. /Shaft Quote
sidewinder Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 Anyone have any ideas as to what's coming up in the next round of Dutton Vocalion Brit Jazz reissues (no doubt there will be at least one more Garrick, perhaps?) Quote
shaft Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 September 19 and no CD. Is there a possiblity for a lengthy delay?? /Shaft Quote
Aftab Posted September 18, 2006 Author Report Posted September 18, 2006 September 19 and no CD. Is there a possiblity for a lengthy delay?? /Shaft Hopefully not, as the $31 has already been charged to my account. I'm thinking we'll have it late Sept/Early Oct, but we'll see . . . Quote
Aftab Posted September 21, 2006 Author Report Posted September 21, 2006 (edited) Just got this email: Dear valued customer, Many thanks for your purchase of our forthcoming 2-CD set: Maynard Ferguson M.F. Horn 3 & M.F. Horn 4 & 5 Live at Jimmy’s (Vocalion 2CDSML 8429) We are sorry to inform you that our release date for this 2-CD set has, for reasons beyond our control, been put back from mid-September 2006 to the beginning of October 2006. Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused. With best wishes, The Dutton Vocalion Team. Please visit our new website www.duttonvocalion.co.uk and the wait continues - it's been 20 years, so what's another 2 weeks or so, I guess Edited September 21, 2006 by Aftab Quote
shaft Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 Hi, The phrase "For reason beyond our control" I do not like ;-) /Shaft Quote
JSngry Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 Unless he signed a really bad contract, Ferguson's death would be beyond their control. Maybe they plan on slightly altering the packaging with a sticker or something to reflect Maynard's recent passing? Quote
Aftab Posted October 3, 2006 Author Report Posted October 3, 2006 Does anyone know if this shipped yet? Site says September release again - !?!?! Quote
Claude Posted October 3, 2006 Report Posted October 3, 2006 Anyone have any ideas as to what's coming up in the next round of Dutton Vocalion Brit Jazz reissues (no doubt there will be at least one more Garrick, perhaps?) In case you're not aware, there is a long thread about British jazz reissues on on AAJ: http://forums.allaboutjazz.com/showthread.php?t=5966 Quote
Guest akanalog Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 dutton seems to reissue a lot of crap with the good little batches few and far between. though it is better than nothing. Quote
Aftab Posted October 4, 2006 Author Report Posted October 4, 2006 The label's site says 'available now' - so hopefully the preorders have shipped . . . Quote
shaft Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 Yeah, I got it today and have it playing as I write! Great music! The sound Q seems so and so though. /Shaft Quote
Guest akanalog Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 dutton remastering sound flat and dull to me. Quote
shaft Posted October 8, 2006 Report Posted October 8, 2006 Yes I was hoping for better sound - especially when they put emphasis on the remastering side in their promotion. It is not a cathastrophy though so people should not be put off buying the 2-disc set! The music is great! /Shaft Quote
Aftab Posted October 11, 2006 Author Report Posted October 11, 2006 Got mine today - YES! Now my MF 60-70's Columbia Collection is complete - for the first time since 1984 - it's a good day I could make my own Mosaic Quote
shaft Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 Still playing this one. It's great! /Shaft Quote
sidewinder Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 Was listening to a vinyl of 'Live at Jimmy's' in a shop the other week. Couldn't get into it at all, too much 'grand-standing' for me. Which is a shame, as I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Maynard live and am a big fan of the Mosaic Roulette material. Maybe I should give it another chance? Quote
JSngry Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 Worth it just to hear Bruce Johnston make a bari almost sound like Gene Ammons. Not an "essential" side by any means, but millions of energetic white men over the last several centuries have produced tons of music with far less of a benevolent spirit than the music contained in that album. Gotta appreciate that! MF Horn 3, otoh, just sorta dies outta the gate. Never did dig that one. Quote
makpjazz57 Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 So far, only available directly from the source in England? Does anyone know if this is available for purchase on line anywhere in the U.S.? Thanks, Marla Quote
jazzbo Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 www.worldsrecords.com doesn't yet show it, but I bet they get it (they stock the Vocalion series), usually get them before other US stores. You could call Ren Brown and see. . . . Quote
