Van Basten II Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 i find it interesting and most unusual that an undefeated reigning superbowl champion, playing a home game, is an underdog. Finally a post that relates to this thread You have to remember that odds only represent what betting people think of the outcome of the game. In any case, they may be champs, they may be undefeated but they're facing a special team that has a better history overall and that has played better football than the champs so far this year. And with all the hoopla regarding the stolen signals scandal it seems that they are pissed off and they don't mind acting like it, unfortunately for the rest of the league their opponent are paying for it. This team seems to have embraced the concept of me against the world. Quote

Shawn Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Let's talk football for a change of pace. I think this Colts/Pats game is going to be very interesting and should be a good measure of these two teams. Let's face it, both teams are great but don't exactly play in the strongest divisions, so they aren't getting first class competition every week. This is the biggest test of the year for both teams. Now the real question of the season; is there a team in the NFC that can lay some serious competition against these guys? I'm not so sure about that. At the moment Dallas (with Green Bay close behind) seem to be in control of the situation and they didn't measure up all that well against the Pats. I'm getting bored with the AFC Championship game being the most entertaining of the year...the SuperBowl is beginning to feel like an afterthought. Quote

I started off in joking mode and continued as such; yet it seems that he got annoyed at my comments. I am really not upset at him at all. But I do honestly request that the thread return to football. How about this weekend's matchup, huh? I won't be able to get any work done at all this Sunday--either before or after the game. That game will DOMINATE my Sunday. Better be worth it. And my team better win. I'll be bummed for an entire week if they don't. There's a lot of emotional committment on my part riding on this game. Quote

On the other hand, with the notable exception of the Pats and Colts, it occurred to me recently that the NFC is quietly fielding some strong teams--and likely stronger teams than their AFC counterparts (aside from the above-mentioned two.) NY Giants, Dallas, Green Bay are arguably better than Pittsburgh, San Diego and Jacksonville. Well, I did say arguably. They appear to be equal to them anyway. The NFC East is the best division in football. Quote

Shawn Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 The NFC East is the best division in football. At the moment, the Cowboys are 6/1, Giants 6/2, Redskins 4/3, Eagles 3/4. All of these teams have potential to be great...but are they there yet? The Cowboys are probably the closest, I'm waiting for the Giants to self-destruct like they do every year, the Redskins still haven't figured out who they are yet and the Eagles just don't seem to be clicking. Not sure if I'd agree with the "best division in football" at this point in the season. Maybe if the Cowboys had put up a better showing against the Pats I'd be more willing to give them "superstar" credibility. Quote
T.D. Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 I agree that NFC East is the strongest division, if we go by consistency of team strength. Even though the strongest clubs aren't as good as the AFC's best, there's no doormat, and the current cellar-dweller, Philly, is arguably dangerous. That said, the AFC South isn't too far behind (lag is due mostly to Houston), and the AFC North would be up there if Cincy wasn't having a horrible season (do the Bengals have any chance at turning it around, or is their season a write-off?). connoisseur series500 Posted November 1, 2007 Author Report Posted November 1, 2007 (edited) Would be curious to hear everyone's prediction for Sunday's game. Me: NE wins. (And with some margin-close to two tds.) Edited November 1, 2007 by connoisseur series500 Quote
T.D. Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 Would be curious to hear everyone's prediction for Sunday's game. Me: NE wins. (And with some margin-close to two tds.) I was never good at football betting, but OK... Spread opened Pats -3-1/2 COLTS, has moved out to 5 the last I saw. Over-under is a vertiginous 56-1/2. This is a tough one. I'll say NE, as long as the spread stays under 7. I'd take Indy +7. I'll go out on a limb and say under 56.5, as one team may cross bettors up and try to play ball-control (most likely Indy, as in the last Super Bowl, though the unpredictable BB often goes for an unexpected game plan). If betting real money, I wouldn't put much on this game. Aside from bragging rights, there's really not huge motivation, as both clubs are highly likely to win their respective divisions. Quote
sheldonm Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 I'll be at the game but have no idea who will win...I guess that's why they actually play the game. I know I'm tired of hearing about the Pat almost as much as hearing about the Red Sox ! I'm not apologizing for anything! m Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 I'd like to apologize for Lucy who never ever apologized to Charlie Brown. Having my neighbor/bestest friend be the hot shot high school kicker when I was a kid gave me plenty of practice from her end - and no soccer style back then, straight up flat toed spikes and I still have all my fingers. Now I live near the Pats but will always pull for the Browns and not just because Marion Motley shopped at the same grocery store. Quote

Man with the Golden Arm Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 I'd like the Raiders to apologize to Brian Sipe for that Red Right 88 thing! Quote
Noj Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 Sounds to me like the Browns' field goal unit and Sipe himself should have apologized to Cleveland! Quote

Aggie87 Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 Would be curious to hear everyone's prediction for Sunday's game. I think Dallas will beat the Eagles, 35-21. If you mean that "other" game, then I think the Pats will win, 107-84. Quote
Noj Posted November 1, 2007 Report Posted November 1, 2007 After watching the Pats make mincemeat of every defense they've faced so far, including the formidable Washington and Dallas squads, I'm apt to predict the Colts won't fair much better. Quote
