JSngry Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 (edited) Call mine the minority opinion, but I thought those mustard & brown Broncs throwbacks were perversely cool in an uber-football-as-underarm-deodorant-and-sweaty-jockstrap kinda way. They spoke to the inner crew cut in all of us. Plus, them vertical stripes on the hosiery was TRIPPY. Edited October 12, 2009 by JSngry Quote
WorldB3 Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 (edited) There was a stretch in the playoffs back in 88-89 where I thought Joe Montana was the best QB ever but Peyton Manning is 10x better. He is just scary unstoppable this year, 329 passing yards per game. Must see TV every time he walks on the field. Edited October 12, 2009 by WorldB3 Quote
Chalupa Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 I know it's still early and that a team's/player's fortunes fall/rise weekly but it sure does look like Denver made out better than Chicago did on the Kyle Orton/Jay Cutler trade. Quote
GA Russell Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 I liked Denver's uniform when I was a kid. I saw them occasionally on TV. Our TV was b/w throughout the 60s, but I knew the colors from the bubble gum cards. In addition, the Broncos wore dark pants with light jerseys which was rare in the 60s. The socks were disliked by the players. The vertical stripes were the idea of the owner Bob Howsam who later made a name for himself in baseball. The Denver fans either strongly liked or disliked the socks, and Howsam figured that anything that got people talking about the team was a good thing. By the way, Denver was the only AFL team to never sign its first round draft pick until the two drafts were merged. 2009 being the 50th season of the original 8 AFL teams, the NFL is engaging in a special promotion for those 8 teams. That includes wearing the throwback uniforms for a number of games. I went to the Patriots' website last night, and found that they are selling a cap with the Pat the Patriot logo with the word "Boston" above it. I think I'll get it. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 It could be a Manning vs Manning Super Bowl this season I like the Giants running back duo We destroyed the Bills yesterday More punts than points in the game Quote

rachel Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Broncos beat the Pats in OT! Whodathunk? Not such a big surprise as Invesco field has been a house of horrors throughout Tom Brady's career. Still, that was all under Mike Shanahan. Game was close. Pats stop the Bronco offense at the end of the fourth quarter to force overtime. Then they win the coin toss, and the offense has another chance. Overtime in the NFL is a casino crapshoot. ...and the Pats' defense had 4 more chances to stop 'em. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Weird Stat Going into week 6 Every team had zero wins going into their game vs Redskins This must be close to some kind of record We might lose to the Stealers this week if we only score field goals Quote
Soulstation1 Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Brees carved up the Giants D Brady threw more TDS today than we've scored all season WTF happened to Philly today Quote
GA Russell Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 I don't think that the Steelers are very good this year. Quote
Free For All Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 59-0?? WTF is going on with the Titans? Quote
Soulstation1 Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 New world record at the bar today 945AM-915PM Quote
Chalupa Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 59-0?? WTF is going on with the Titans? Maybe the NFL needs a "Mercy" or "Skunk" rule? Nah. When your hometown baseball team is putting up more points on the board then you football team, something ain't right. Quote
Shawn Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 ....don't go to sleep on the Texans. These guys are getting VERY close to being a real threat. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted October 19, 2009 Author Report Posted October 19, 2009 I don't think that the Steelers are very good this year. They didn't look very good at all. NY Jets looked worse. I had to watch the Jets and Bills turn the ball over five straight times. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted October 19, 2009 Author Report Posted October 19, 2009 59-0?? WTF is going on with the Titans? Titans were without their starting cornerbacks. They got behind so early that they became helpless. As for the Patriots, I mentioned a few weeks ago that once the Pats' offense start to get in sync it will be scary. Looks like it's about to happen. This year's team is probably the most talented and deepest since 2004. They will be a Super Bowl threat by the end of the season. Started off rough owing to a lot of new faces on the field and Josh McDaniels left to coach the Broncos. They also started off the season against five straight teams without a loss. Schedule remains easy next week with Tampa Bay up next, but they might be facing another undefeated team with Indianapolis in a few weeks. Quote

Conn, why in the world did Belicheck let Brady play after halftime? At 45-0 you sit your starting QB and keep him safe. Staring at 0-6, some Titan might do something stupid and injure Brady. Quote

Played first series in the third quarter. The idea, I think, was to keep the momentum going. He would likely sit throughout most of the second half, but didn't want any mini comeback to get established by the Titans. Play him for one series to keep the intensity going, then bench him for the remainder of the game. There was a game against the Dolphins in the 16-0 season, where they had a large lead and put Cassell in to start the second half, and he coughed up the ball a couple of times. Brady was expeditiously sent back into the game. I think BB never forgot that. (That was before Cassell became Cassell.) Quote
Free For All Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 (edited) Good game tonight between Denver and SD. That last Denver touchdown was a close call. I thought he didn't get in, but who knows. Denver undefeated in a "rebuilding" year! Whodathunk? Also, who'd have thought the undefeated teams at this point would be Denver, Indy, Minnesota and Nawlins? It's a crazy world. Edited October 20, 2009 by Free For All Quote
GA Russell Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 How 'bout dem Saints! Yeah, you right! Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted October 20, 2009 Author Report Posted October 20, 2009 16-0? You mean 18-1? You're including playoffs. That's fine, but the team still finished the reg season 16-0. It was a 16-0 season. 16-0? You mean 18-1? At first glance, I thought that was Romo on the ground. Hey guys, I'm proud of that season. Pats finished it 16-0 and lost in the Super Bowl to a freak catch. Hard for any team at any time to match that accomplishment. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 Who cares if they went 16-0 they didn't win the Super Bowl game The biggest single game of the season I bet they would settle for 17-1 or 16-2 if the won the SB All IMO Quote

If that were Romo, it would be after he tripped over the chalk on the field or something. I joke about it, but I'd be proud of a 16-0 season any day! Quote
