CJ Shearn
I just popped in the new Kenny Garrett into the computer, and it sort of confirms my suspicion this record was compressed to hell and is very hot. I can see the levels peaking in Winamp on the first tune "Calling" on the left channel, but where do you guys get those programs that analyze waveforms? I would like to use such to see how compressed some of these discs are. Thanks Nonesuch for squashing the dynamics on this great new album Edited September 7, 2006 by CJ Shearn
Dan Gould
I'd be interested in such programs too, as apparently they can reveal when dime seeds are from "lossy" sources.
CJ Shearn
Creative Wav studio does not seem to play CD's but straight wave files. Hopfully someone knows where we can access these programs
Matthew
Can't "Gold Wave" do that? When I download a file, some kind of graph comes up.
couw
Goldwave will show you the wave and if you see a brick wall consisting of much more sound than silence, it is likely there has been compression. To assess whether a source is lossy, you'd need a programme that can show you a frequency analysis. MP3s are typically cut off at 16 KHz.
