JSngry Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 I used to play in a blues band where I used the name Tall Boy Horn, just for grins. But then, I've known cats who've used a stage name for more, uh... "protective" reasons. Share your tales here. Quote
Dmitry Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 I used to play in a blues band where I used the name Tall Boy Horn... Tall Boy Horn...?! Gay porn, anyone? Back in the single days I used to tell the ladies my name was Inigo Montoya... Quote

JSngry Posted September 6, 2006 Author Report Posted September 6, 2006 That was sorta the original impetus... Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 I assume this qualifies ... My first radio gig was at a country station in Tallahassee, FL. The PD didn't think "Dan Gould" sounded "right" for a country audience (guess he assumed a Jewish background) so I decided to use my mother's maiden name and became Dan Cunningham. I figured it would be easier to remember than a completely made up name, but there was still at least one moment where I said, "I'm Dan ... Cunningham" and I felt like such a fool, not knowing my name. It helps, however, if you say this at 3:50 AM and no one is listening. I was damn glad though when my next gig allowed me to use my real name. Much easier to keep track of. Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 (edited) I just realized this is in the Musician's Forum, so perhaps I shouldn't have shared. Oh well. But hey! It was still show biz ... Edited September 6, 2006 by Dan Gould Quote
Dmitry Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 Gay porn is out; after 17 years I'm still getting a hang of the American vernacular.... Quote

DukeCity Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Touring with Maynard's band (R.I.P.), I used to do a blues feature almost every night. In a slightly altered state, I decided I needed a blues nickname so I asked MF to introduce me as Glenn "Butter Bucket" Kostur. The tune was then announced as "Butter's Bucket of Blues". That lasted about a week, when I finally sobered up for a minute . Quote

Larry Kart Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 I wrote an article about numerology for a high school literature textbook I was editing, using the name Conrad King (chosen by me). It seemed just right. Quote
WD45 Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 I have DJed under the moniker of DJ Indestructible. I even made a photocopy of my Art Blakey album of the same name, created a stencil, and made my very own shirt. Then similar shirts were made available commercially. [Not by me.] Quote
