Guy Berger Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 Somebody posted this on AAJ: Have just learned that Andrew Hill has taken ill. No details as yet, but apparently it's fairly serious. I know he has been unwell for a while now, but it seems he has taken a turn for the worse. Let's all keep him in our thoughts and prayers, and wish him a speedy recovery. No clue how reliable this is, hopefully this is just a false rumor. Guy Quote
ghost of miles Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 I certainly hope it is false, but given what he's been battling, it's news (if true) that I've been fearing. I was just listening to ANDREW! a little while ago... best wishes for recovery, AH. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 At least one old thread deals with this. Andrew has been ill for a while. I don't have the inclination to hunt but it is not news. Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 At least one old thread deals with this. Andrew has been ill for a while. I don't have the inclination to hunt but it is not news. Maybe it is news if he's taken a turn for the worse. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 Difficult to make a "progressive illness" news. Quote
bertrand Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 (edited) Andrew is supposed to be a judge at the Monk piano competition in two weeks. Bertrand. Edited September 5, 2006 by bertrand Quote
P.L.M Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 He is suffering from a lung cancer from years now. His concert in July, for the Belgium BLUE NOTE FESTIVAL was cancelled for "illness". NOAH ROSEN, a former student of him, have seen him in December last year and had confrm that the hillness had taken a bad turn. Quote
sheldonm Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 Someone mentioned a turn for the worse at the Chicago Jazz Fest this past weekend....may have been Lovano, not sure. m~ Quote
fkimbrough Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 (edited) I just spoke with Andrew - the muscles around his vocal cords are collapsed, so it's difficult for him to speak, but he assured me that otherwise he's OK, considering his illness. We spoke for only a couple of minutes, but he told me that his doctor told him that his vocal cords may get stronger if he "keeps his mouth shut", so at least his sense of humor is intact.......... bertrand Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 Frank, Thank you so much for the update. Please let Andrew know that we are all thinking of him and wish him strength in this difficult period. Bertrand. Quote
bertrand Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 (edited) Andrew was a judge at this week-end's Thelonious Monk piano competition. It was good to see him again, and he seemed really happy to be part of this event. Bertrand. Edited September 18, 2006 by bertrand Quote
