Head Man Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 I've just seen that Downtown Music Gallery DMG has three of the early Air recordings available as 'self-released CD-Rs'. The three are: '80 degrees below '82' which came out on the Antilles label in 1982 'Air Raid' which I have on a 'Whynot' Lp from 1976 'Air Song' which I have on an 'India Navigation' LP from 1982 Now this is serious music, so if you don't have vinyl copies already, get an order in quickly! JSngry Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 I have Air Raid on "legit" Japanese CD. Air Song has been released on CD by the same label. Who's doing this "self-releasing" - Threadgill or DMG? Agreed, great music. Carpe diem! Quote
Head Man Posted September 4, 2006 Author Report Posted September 4, 2006 I have Air Raid on "legit" Japanese CD. Air Song has been released on CD by the same label. Who's doing this "self-releasing" - Threadgill or DMG? Agreed, great music. Carpe diem! The CDs are marked as being re-released by Henry Threadgill, so I think we can assume they are legit. BTW what label were 'Air Raid' & 'Air Song' released on? Quote
JSngry Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 (edited) Glad to hear that they're legit! The LPs were on Japanese Why Not/Trio (maybe Chuck can sort out the specifics as to which was what?). India Navigation leased Air Song for American release, and that's where I have it. Both were released on CD on Japanese P.J.L.The Antilles session was totally theirs, I believe. All are excellent, to put it mildly. Edited September 4, 2006 by JSngry Quote
shrugs Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 there's a tune on 80 Degrees Below '82 that is worth the trip alone. I forget the name but I am pretty sure Threadgill plays tenor on it. It's a blues. Quote
ghost of miles Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 I have only the Nessa AIR TIME and have been hunting for a couple of the above titles for awhile... thanks for the tip! Quote

BFrank Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 I have lots of Air vinyl. - Air Time - Open Air Suit - Montreux Suisse - Air Lore - 80° Below '82 Haven't listened in a while. Maybe it's time to pull those guys out and give them a spin. Quote
Guest akanalog Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 there is also a live threadgill disc. i was at DMG yesterday. the threadgills look just like the uh, not as legit LP burn discs that they sell but i guess they are legit. wasn't sure which one to check out. isn't whynot or whatever it is called still around and putting stuff out. there are a few discs on that label i would like to check out. so this thread isn't really helping narrow it down to which air disc would be the best to check out. i guess they are all good.
