The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 16, 2006 Report Posted September 16, 2006 Agreed. Earl Turbinton (alto) is a very underrated New Orleans musician. He made a great album for Rounder (produced by Ron Levy, I see) in 1987. And that's about it. He played at Professor Longhair's funeral - in the film "Piano players rarely ever play toether" - one of the most moving sax solos I've ever heard. And Reuben is Reuben, Eddie Diehl is Eddie Diehl and Harold White is completely unknown to me but very much there. MG Quote
jazzbo Posted September 16, 2006 Report Posted September 16, 2006 Another fine Waters production! Quote

He's hard to miss on this one: And has a sparse but interesting recorded resume: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&a...s9kebt7q7z~T40D Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted September 16, 2006 Report Posted September 16, 2006 anyone pick up this cd? I probably picked this up before you were born - no cds then. Quote
Soul Stream Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 (edited) While The World Lies Waiting is my favorite cut on this album. Reuben has such a happy and uplifting style on the organ. Although I think "Love Bug" and "Blue Mode" are both better albums...I think Groovy Situation has Reuben's personal best playing from this era. I'm a real Reuben Wilson fan. *however, I do HATE the drummer on this session. Plodding. Never moving anything along. Just digging coal the whole time. Poor Reuben is dragging this guy along the whole session. Edited September 17, 2006 by Soul Stream Quote

I've even got one of those but didn't realise he was on it. MG Quote

Soulstation1 Posted September 18, 2006 Author Report Posted September 18, 2006 anyone pick up this cd? I probably picked this up before you were born - no cds then. i was born before this LP was released Quote
andybleaden Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 i was lucky enough to be very young (maybe even not born ) before this record was released yet still tracked down a sealed original when I started to collect recrods ( before I then sold them again) Was a nice treat opening this after 30 odd years of laying around untouched...one of my children later dropped +scratched it!....sold them ( LP and children) and bought a cd from those nice people at Waters Cracking record and very very different Quote
Guest akanalog Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 i did not care for this album. sometimes i don't know why water releases certain albums-i think they are looking more at the covers than listening to the music. why not release "on the avenue " or "cheshire cat" by ronnie foster over this reuben wilson one? because this one has a cool cover? same with the "brute force" release. nice cover but the music isn't thaaat good. sort of disappointing, actually. Soulstation1 Posted October 4, 2006 Author Report Posted October 4, 2006 ak send me a PM if you are interested in selling that cd ss1 Quote

Yeah, I have this on lp and think it is somewhat lame compared to the ones Blue Note issued on CD. Grooves are just a little too simple/repetitive. Flame away Quote
Guest akanalog Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 ss1, i have it on LP not CD. sorry. Quote

I was also disappointed with this cd. I don't even have it anymore. I think I sold or traded it away. Reuben has done much better things. Quote
robertoart Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 Just noticed a new one from Reuben is out. It's called 'Movin On', with Grant Green jnr. on it. Anyone heard it yet? Quote
