The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 2, 2006 Report Posted September 2, 2006 (edited) I was looking on AMG earlier to check if Sonny Stitt's "My mother's eyes" had been issued on Cd and happened to notice that Etta Jones' album of the same name was available on CD. This was originally issued on Muse. AMG said it was out on Savoy Jazz, so I went onto the Savoy Jazz site. There's nowt there! According to CDUniverse, which has the album for sale (next order for me), it was reissued in 2003. When you look at the Savoy Jazz catalogue, it's dated 2002! If you do a search for Jones, you get loads of Joneses but not Etta. If you do a search for Vijay Iyer, you get nothing! (Not that I'm interested but you'd have thought that you could have turned up one of his albums on a search.) Savoy Jazz has all those lovely Muse/Cobblestone albums. And there seems to be no way of finding out which they've reissued, except by accident. Does anybody know a better way of finding out what's available through Savoy Jazz? mikeweil Posted September 2, 2006 Report Posted September 2, 2006 (edited) Savoy Jazz Catalog It says "copyright" 2002 - that doesn't mean it wasn't updated later! But I too can't find any non-Savoy reissues on there! Edited September 3, 2006 by mikeweil Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 3, 2006 Author Report Posted September 3, 2006 Savoy Jazz Catalog It says "copyright" 2002 - that doesn't mean it wasn't updated later! But I too can't find any non-Savoy reissues on there! But also, there aren't any recent Savoy Jazz issues on there! No Vijay Iyer! That seems extraordinary to me. MG Quote
Daniel A Posted September 3, 2006 Report Posted September 3, 2006 It says "copyright" 2002 - that doesn't mean it wasn't updated later! In fact, the last releases on that list are from January 2003... Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 4, 2006 Author Report Posted September 4, 2006 Well, I've written a mild note to ask how to find out what they've got. We'll see if they care. MG Quote
king ubu Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 This is strange... but the website, doesn't it stem from the time when they were still (?) linked to Atlantic? The only interaction I had with Savoy was about that disc of the Charlie Parker 8CD Savoy/Dial etc. box that had wrong speed... Dan Marx answered those mails, I think, and was very kind and helpful. But that was at least two years ago. (And it turned out my disc was alright, but me having gotten that set pretty late was panicking about them still being able to replace defective discs... he helped me confirm that mine was alright and was very kind in doing so.)
