danasgoodstuff Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Heard Dewey live only once, with the KJ American Quartet, and felt that none of his records did him justice in terms of toneor performance. Hope he's doing better soon... Quote

mailman Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 I heard him last week with Randy Weston at Lincoln Center Out Of Doors (Billy Harper was also in the band) and he seemed ok. Hope it's nothing serious. Get well soon Dewey. Quote

JSngry Posted September 2, 2006 Report Posted September 2, 2006 Much love & hope sent out to a real voice of soul. Now's not the time to be checking out. Quote
fkimbrough Posted September 2, 2006 Report Posted September 2, 2006 (edited) I just played with him at the Charlie Parker Festival in Tompkins Square Park last Sunday - he sounded great, but seemed a little detached, and arrived literally two minutes before time to hit. He played as well as ever, but hadn't returned a couple of calls I made to him since the gig - now I know why.....after a couple of phone calls I just found out he's in a coma........please remember him in your prayers. Van Basten II Posted September 2, 2006 Report Posted September 2, 2006 Man, i saw him last year with Pat Metheny and with his quartet and his gig was one of the highlights of the 2005 edition of the Montreal Jazz fest. Awful news. Quote
