Son-of-a-Weizen Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Roy Haynes, "People" (Pacific Jazz) I'm with you on that one, PLUS: Mastersounds 'In Concert' (Pacific Jazz) Montgomery Brothers 'Plus 5 Others' (Pacific Jazz) Quote
Eric Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 There are also a couple Phineas Newborn lps on Roulette ... Quote
Jim R Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Roy Haynes, "People" (Pacific Jazz) I'm with you on that one, PLUS: Mastersounds 'In Concert' (Pacific Jazz) Montgomery Brothers 'Plus 5 Others' (Pacific Jazz) The Haynes album is sweet. I'd love to see that one too. I want a Mastersounds Mosaic box (big). There's plenty of material for a full set. "The Montgomery Brothers Plus 5 Others" (along with some of those other rare PJ LP's) have already been out on CD ("Far Wes" and "Fingerpickin"), but maybe the sound could be upgraded for those who want a new release. And for cryin' out loud, it's time for FREEDOM, already. Quote
Chas Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 What about the John Handys for Roulette? I like the first two Handy Roulettes , and there is a third , so a double-CD would be needed . Staying with Roulette , how about the two Bill Russo big band sides , School of Rebellion and Seven Deadly Sins on one CD ? Quote
felser Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 the McLean, Handy, Washington, Young, Smith all sound great to me. Also, the Art Blakey Roulettes, especially 'Gypsy Folk Tales', which introduced the mind-blowing Bobby Watson to the world (at least my world). Also, the missing McCoy Tyner and Bobby Hutcherson 70's Blue Note material if the Mosaic Selects aren't going to happen (they keep getting bumped). Quote
JSngry Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Chico Hamilton Trio on PJ (12" version) - Jim Hall/Howard Roberts paired w/Chico & George Duvivier. Sublime music. Quote
Jim R Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Chico Hamilton Trio on PJ (12" version) - Jim Hall/Howard Roberts paired w/Chico & George Duvivier. Sublime music. Add that one to my list. Haven't heard that in years. Quote
ep1str0phy Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 High Frequency, High Frequency, High Frequency... Also (less forceful on this, 'cause I know it's going to happen) the Change date. Quote
sidewinder Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 How about Donald Byrd 'The Creeper' (for folks who don't have the Mosaic). With Pepper Adams and Chick Corea. Well worth a reissue - last time out was on vinyl in the 'Rainbow' series. Quote
Guy Berger Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Any of Chick Corea's Circle stuff. YES!!!! Guy Quote
EKE BBB Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 I don't want Connoisseurs. I want RVGs. From the first fifteen years of the label. I couldn´t agree more, Lon! There´s a lot of early Blue Note output waiting to be reissued! Quote
Clunky Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 From those suggested , the following would appeal most to me Andrew Hill- Change Jackie McLean- High Frequency Chico Hamilton- PJ Trio also what about Duke Jordans "Flight to Jordan"- perhaps more likely to be an RVG Quote
Kyo Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 High Frequency, High Frequency, High Frequency... Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that one - the only McLean BN I still need on CD. Quote
LAL Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Randomly picking from a list (never heard any of the albums): Harold Vick - Steppin' Out Ike Quebec - Congo Lament Sonny Redd - Out Of The Blue Walter Davis Jr - Davis Cup Freddie Redd - Shades of Redd (again?) And yes please to Art Hodes and other early Blue Note albums. Quote

And yes please to Art Hodes and other early Blue Note albums. I think all of the above apart from 'Congo Lament' have previously been out as Conns. They all need to be available again though. The Harold Vick in particular. Not sure 'Congo Lament' has ever been on CD (I have an LP of it with the weird monkey-in-earmuffs jungle scene ). Good music though ! Quote
Kyo Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 How about Bobby Hutcherson - Live at Montreux? Can't seem to find that old CD edition anywhere. Same with Total Eclipse (which I guess will rather become an RVG at some point - hopefully soon). Quote
Kyo Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Sam Rivers - A New Conception Oh yeah, the lone Sam Rivers BN date that wasn't issued individually yet. Good choice! Great album, too! Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 How about Bobby Hutcherson - Live at Montreux? Absolutely! Quote
J.A.W. Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 (edited) Not sure 'Congo Lament' has ever been on CD (I have an LP of it with the weird monkey-in-earmuffs jungle scene ). Good music though ! All tracks from Congo Lament were reissued on Ike Quebec's Easy Living (Blue Note CDP 7 46846-2). Three tracks appeared on the Japanese "Blue Note Works" CD version (Toshiba TOCJ-4103): "See See Rider", "Congo Lament", and "Que's Pill". Edited September 1, 2006 by J.A.W. Quote
paul secor Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Zoot Sims in Paris (UA) And another vote for Art Hodes Quote

Tony Pusey Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Paul, Zoot Sims in Paris about to be released by Toshiba in Japan at 1500 yen. My vote? The Handys on Roulette. Quote
