Kyo Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Reinier already told us that the Compulsion RVG is due next March and Louis Smith's Smithville as a Connoisseur Edition will follow in June. It would be great to know what else is coming out soon to avoid unnecessarily paying over-inflated prices for OOP discs in the next months. Quote

Kyo Posted August 31, 2006 Author Report Posted August 31, 2006 I've probably talked too much already so let's wait a little longer...... Wouldn't it be in Blue Note's interest to announce these things early? After all every used CD that people buy now could result in one RVG or Conn less sold when those new reissues hit the street. After all every used CD that people buy now could result in one RVG or Conn less sold when those new reissues hit the street. Many years ago, Michael Cuscuna used to tell me what he was planning to put out many months in advance. I used to post it, first on the rec.music.bluenote newsgroup, later on the Blue Note BB. A few times, even though I always stated in big, bold letters, "SUBJECT TO CHANGE", titles were swapped and people got very upset, to the point of writing nasty letters. Cuscuna figured it wasn't worth the hassle so now he pretty much waits until he gets the UPC code, which means it's "definite". Later, Kevin Quote

bertrand Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 I'm fine with waiting for the announcement of the titles, but as I asked in the other thread, do we still have a way to get suggestions out to MC before he makes the final decision? Kevin? Bluerein? Thanks, Bertrand. Quote

Dan Gould Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 what Jimmy Smith fiasco? please fill me in..... He's talking about how The Sermon and House Party contents were handled when they became RVGs. People sold the original reissues only to discover that some tunes didn't appear on the RVG and now they were out the discs. Quote
Kyo Posted August 31, 2006 Author Report Posted August 31, 2006 (edited) He's talking about how The Sermon and House Party contents were handled when they became RVGs. People sold the original reissues only to discover that some tunes didn't appear on the RVG and now they were out the discs. In my case I bought the RVGs some time ago thinking they were (as usual) the way to go only to discover that I missed out on half a dozen tracks that were only on the old CD editions. Some people had been complaining that the old CDs had a different track listing/order than the LPs and Cuscuna got so annoyed with them that he made the RVGs almost straight copies of the LPs, leaving off most of the extra tracks that were added to the old CDs. I have ordered copies of those old CDs since but no matter what I do with the RVGs now (sell them or keep them for the better sound), this will end up unnecessarily costing me a few bucks. I wouldn't mind the whole re-sequencing of the material as much if I could just buy a third RVG disc with those missing tracks (and better sound) but even five years after the Sermon/House Party reissues Blue Note still hasn't bothered to put those extra tracks back out on the market. Rooster_Ties Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 (edited) Have the next round of Conns been decided yet?? (or "mostly" decided??) Sure, I'd love to know what they are -- but my question is literal -- have they already mostly been decided yet?? (yes, no, or mostly??) I ask because I'm wanting to do a letter-writing campaign to get "The Trainwreck" sessions released (or mostly released, at least), as bonus tracks on TW's "Natural Essence". Any chance if anyone could reveal if "Natural Essence" is at least being considered for the next round of Conns?? (And if so, are is "The Trainwreck" being considered??) Also, what month are the next round of Conns targeted for?? Edited August 31, 2006 by Rooster_Ties Quote

Bluerein Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Some conns are being thought of by MC but nothing firm yet. Maybe we should make a new list and I'll talk to him about it. Quote
bertrand Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Didn't the Collector's Choice Johnny Griffin alreay have bonus tracks? I started a list on the Compulsion thread, but I'll start a new thread. Bertrand. Quote

Kyo Posted August 31, 2006 Author Report Posted August 31, 2006 Thanks for posting these, Reinier! ICPN: 0094637421420 Lou Donaldson - Lush Life (7 tracks) ICPN: 0094637423226 Thad Jones - Detroit-New York Junction (5 tracks) ICPN: 0094637423721 Art Taylor - A.T.'s Delight (6 tracks) I would've bought those three as used CDs (old editions) within two weeks if you hadn't posted the list. Now I'm gonna wait for the RVGs! Quote
Face of the Bass Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 A.T.'s Delight is a nice addition. Quote
Aggie87 Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 I agree, as is the Dexter Gordon "Clubhouse" and Kenny Drew "Undercurrent". Quote

My 'Johnny Griffin' CD has 9 tracks. I wonder what's missing from the RVG? Quote
Kyo Posted August 31, 2006 Author Report Posted August 31, 2006 I agree, as is the Dexter Gordon "Clubhouse" and Kenny Drew "Undercurrent". That's true. I have the old Clubhouse CD and a Japanese Undercurrent disc but if I didn't, I'd be grabbing those RVGs right away. Maybe I'll even sell my old discs until they are released (same goes for the Johnny Griffin and the Duke Pearson). Quote
mikeweil Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 ICPN: 0094637422229 Horace Silver - You Gotta Take A Little Love (7 tracks) That's the very last Horace Silver not yet on CD except for the "Silver and ..." series! A nice album, not earthshaking, but nice - the only music new to CD in the whole batch! Quote
