Brad Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 I received the Dizzy set, number 6907 and taking into account that these are numbered consectively and this is a run of 10,000, I wonder how long it will be before it goes OOP. Quote
Stefan Wood Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 They don't send the sets in numerical order. Quote
Ron S Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 They do send the big sets in numerical order. In fact, IIRC, it was Brad who posted a couple of years ago about correspondence he received from Mosaic in which it was explained that each large set is numbered consecutively by the computer when it is ordered, and that number is then hand-written in the booklet (and printed on the invoice) when the set is shipped. The correspondence further explained that the Selects are NOT sold/shipped in consecutive order (and indeed, the new ones are not individually numbered at all). Regarding the relatively high number of Brad's set, I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that part of the run of 10,000 goes (unnumbered) to Universal for it to distribute. Maybe Mosaic has decided to start its numbering after the number that goes to Universal (e.g., 5001) so that it doesn't appear that only a small portion of these sets have been sold? Just a thought. Of course, Brad could send another email to Mosaic for clarification, and then enlighten us all. Quote
Claude Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 When was this released? Are you seriously thinking such a set would sell out within weeks? I expect a set of 10.000 to be around for a couple of years. Quote
Brad Posted August 30, 2006 Author Report Posted August 30, 2006 Claude, I would agree with you. It does seem quite strange. Perhaps Ron is right. By the way Ron is right on the first count. I did ask this question of Mosaic awhile ago. I will try to follow up with Mosaic. Quote
tranemonk Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 (edited) He probably has the Dizzy REECE SELECT not the Dizzzy Gillespie box!!! Edited August 30, 2006 by tranemonk Quote
Ron S Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 I think he's confusing it with that Dizzy DEAN baseball card he just bought on Ebay: Quote
Stefan Wood Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 I would find it hard to believe that the Gillespie set would have sold that many copies already. Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Regarding the relatively high number of Brad's set, I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that part of the run of 10,000 goes (unnumbered) to Universal for it to distribute. Maybe Mosaic has decided to start its numbering after the number that goes to Universal (e.g., 5001) so that it doesn't appear that only a small portion of these sets have been sold? This possibility brings up another question: If Universal can't sell its number through retail channels, would the remainder go back to Mosaic, so that Mosaic sells more overall than originally planned? That would keep Mosaic selling this set longer than you wouuld otherwise predict. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 I think they were just trying to keep Brad humble. . . You know how it is with the swollen heads of those with low number sets. . . . Quote
tjobbe Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Dan, the "overstock" Dizzy Universals will be sold via 2001 as regular Cheers, Tjobbe Quote
Bluerein Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 since the Universal Mosaic's are different in numbering it's unlikely they will be returned to Mosaic. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 This is strange. . . because I bought a set for a friend and I'm pretty sure he told me he had received a low number (I had preordered), in the low 200s I thought. I'll try to remember to ask him soon. Quote
Brad Posted September 2, 2006 Author Report Posted September 2, 2006 I didn't get a chance to call Mosaic on Friday so I'll try to find out on Tuesday. It would seem rather incredible that so many copies would have been sold already. Quote

tjobbe Posted September 2, 2006 Report Posted September 2, 2006 Amazon.de just delivering the European version, so its hard to believe that all the Non Universals should be sold out... Don't quite believe that.... Cheers, Tjobbe Quote
B. Goren. Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 I didn't get a chance to call Mosaic on Friday so I'll try to find out on Tuesday. Brad, any conclusions??? Quote
Van Basten II Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 I received an email informing me that two sets are now running low, they are the Elvin Jones and the Mulligan set Quote
Eric Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 I just received set no. 945 ... so not to worry. Quote
Ron S Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 I'm betting that the "6" at the beginning of Brad's number (6907) is actually a "0". The stellar penmanship of the Mosaic shipping department strikes again. Quote

Parkertown Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Which set? Gillespie, right? Not Reece, right? Quote

Wouldn't you please change the thread's title, then? I just ordered the feghing Elvin and it cost a fortune... I get stumped by seeing this thread again and again, afraid I have to spend even more money right now! -_- Quote
