Still got to give it a real listen, but I liked what I heard so far! Eddie Gale, is he the same person who, as Eddie Gale Stevens, plays on Cecil Taylor's "Unit Structures"? And the guest James Lyons, is he THE Jimmy Lyons? Strange questions, for sure, and maybe I needn't ask them after listening, but I want to know! thanks, ubu by the way: the Water reissue of Ghetto Music is around in stores here, but much too expensive. It's the same Gale of Sun Ra tenure. Man, the Water reissues sound SO FLIPPING GOOD--I prefer the Water to the French cd, and the other is equally sonically great. Quote

And if you talk of the thread as such: no need to have an opinion on it. It's just some sort of free jazz corner, growing fast and wild, at a pace which even I who often did post there find hard to follow. However EVERYBODY's totally welcome to jump in, and there's no need for you to read through it all before, absolutely not. I know there's some people with interests as broad as yours (and mine, too), ranging from early jazz to free to fusion (to just talk of jazz music), and the Funny Rat corner is the one where a few of these meet to discuss the free part of the music, verging also on improvised music. And I would be very interested to read what you think about the Lyons box, so... as I said, Funny Rat is NOT an EXCLUSIVE affair (as such it would and should not have a place on this board, I think!), and you're kindly invited to jump in at any time! jazzbo Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 Well two points: from what I've browsed on that thread, the main focus seems to be contemporary avant garde music, which I have to admit I "get" very little of and don't spend much time with, and have little to talk about; I really don't yet have much of an opinion on the Lyons other than I like quite a bit of it a lot and will probably like all of it a lot in time. I really find myself with less and less to say about music, and more wanting the music to speak for itself. Lyons does that pretty well. So thanks for the invite but I don't see this as an appropriate place for me at the moment. Quote

Leeway Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 I picked up a copy of Gale's "A Minute with Miles," which I like. I saw AMG gave it a pretty critical review. Was wondering what others here who know more of Gale's work think about it? Is this good, bad, or indifferent Gale? Quote
