brownie Posted August 23, 2006 Report Posted August 23, 2006 I'ld walk Miles away from this... From a PRWeb release today. Quote Universally Renowned Jazz Icon Miles Davis to be Inducted into Hollywood's RockWalk (PRWEB) August 23, 2006 -- Universally renowned jazz icon Miles Davis to be inducted into Hollywood's RockWalk. WHO: Throughout his 50 year career, Miles Davis has embodied everything that is cool. His innovative style of jazz defined the evolution of the genre -- and some argue that jazz stopped evolving when Davis wasn’t around to push it forward. His love for music began at the age of 13, when he first picked up the trumpet. He went on to study at Juilliard, then known as the Institute of Music, before leaving school to begin a full time career as a jazz musician. Making his recording debut in 1947, Davis went on to record many legendary albums including Round About Midnight, The Birth of Cool, Kind of Blue, which sold more than 2 million copies, Bitches Brew, and Tutu. Having received eight GRAMMY Awards in his career, Davis was also the sole jazz artist inducted into the 2006 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. More recently, Concord Records released a 4-disc box set entitled The Miles Davis Quintet: The Legendary Prestige Quintet Sessions on May 23 to commemorate his 80th birthday on May 26. The 15th anniversary of his passing on September 28, will be honored with the Sony/Legacy Jazz release of Cool & Collected on September 5, along with a live performance DVD release. A special remix project entitled Evolution of the Groove, featuring Santana and Nas, will be released this fall. A biopic on the life of Davis is also in the works with Golden Globe winning actor Don Cheadle set to portray Miles. WHAT: Miles Davis will be posthumously inducted into Hollywood’s RockWalk the only sidewalk gallery dedicated to honoring those artists who have made a significant impact and lasting contribution to the growth and evolution Rock ‘n’ Roll, Blues and R&B. His bronze bust will reside alongside the handprints and signatures of other equally accomplished musicians and innovators such as Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Bonnie Raitt, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Brian Wilson, Stevie Wonder, John Lee Hooker, Lou Reed, Sonic Youth, The Cure, X, AC/DC and Van Dyke Parks among numerous others. WHERE: Hollywood’s RockWalk 7425 Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, CA WHEN: Thursday, September 28th, 2006 at Noon *This event is free and open to the public Quote
mgraham333 Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 (edited) More confirmation on the Miles biopic. "...Cheadle, by the way, told me he has finalized the plans to direct himself as jazz great Miles Davis in a biopic. Cheadle didn’t say which period of Davis’ life will be concentrated on. “You can’t do his whole life in one movie,” he said. But the Oscar nominee knows his facts and figures — Davis’ definitive recording, “Kind of Blue,” still sells 50,000 copies a year. It was originally released on March 2, 1959." The Oscar nominee gets should recheck his facts and figures -- (part of) the album was recorded on March 2, but it was released months later. Guy Quote
