Jim R Posted August 8, 2003 Report Posted August 8, 2003 I just couldn't resist starting a topic to formally welcome my friend Ron Thorne to this board. Ron's main hang is Jazz Corner, but even a few posts here from this experienced gentelman will be a welcome thing (especially for the drummers in the house!). [Note: I know Ron's not much of a fan of smileys, thus I avoided the usual temptations for this occasion] Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted August 8, 2003 Report Posted August 8, 2003 Hi Ron and welcome! I believe we exchanged a few posts on AAJ. I no longer post over there so I'm happy you've decided to check us out over here. Quote
Guest Chaney Posted August 8, 2003 Report Posted August 8, 2003 Welcome Ron! I've greatly enjoyed your posts over at the JC. (I used to post there myself but I was a naughty boy. ) I did a Google image search for 'Ron Thorne' and got this: Which one are you? (Sorry but I like 'smilies'.) Quote
Ron Thorne Posted August 8, 2003 Report Posted August 8, 2003 Many thanks for the kind words and welcome. Thanks for your restraint with the smilies, too, Jim. Chaney, I could be somewhere in that photo, but I haven't found me yet. AJ, is that you, you devil? I'll hang around here from time-to-time, since the level of discourse seems civil, intelligent and spirited. Quote
catesta Posted August 8, 2003 Report Posted August 8, 2003 Welcome brother. I will apologize in advance for my over use of the smiley. Quote
J.A.W. Posted August 8, 2003 Report Posted August 8, 2003 Welcome brother. I will apologize in advance for my over use of the smiley. Quote
RonF Posted August 8, 2003 Report Posted August 8, 2003 Nice to see you in The Land O' Smiles, old buddy! Nothing but smiling faces and happy posts everywhere you go around here. Optimism and good wishes abound. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 8, 2003 Report Posted August 8, 2003 Ron, great to see you here. I have to say that Ron is one of the nicest persons I've ever met on the internet. Which makes it a natural for him to be here where almost all the others congregate. Quote
DrJ Posted August 9, 2003 Report Posted August 9, 2003 Wow, with this build up, you must be feelin' some pressure! Seriously, welcome! Quote
John L Posted August 9, 2003 Report Posted August 9, 2003 Welcome, Ron! I really enjoyed interacting with you at Jazz Corner from the get go. I remember the time back then when it seemed like ever other thread was initiatied by you. You were instrumental in getting that BBS on track. ( Actually, I was one of the few registered people at Jazz Corner long before Jazz Central Station bit the dust.) This is a great site for discussing a lot of jazz topics that currently generate much less interest at JC, particularly those having to do with jazz history. Stick around. John P.S. We love Jim Pepper here too! RIP Quote
Ron Thorne Posted August 9, 2003 Report Posted August 9, 2003 Wow, what a nice welcoming committee, with some very familiar names, and ones I think I can figure out despite changes in their User Name from one board to another. I must say that the vibes on this board were pleasant and adult-like from my first visit. Delighted to hear that my dear friend, the late Jim Pepper, is appreciated here, too. With this kind of reception, Pep would probably have invoked one of his favorites ... Big Love! Thank you for making me feel so welcome. Camai~ Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 9, 2003 Report Posted August 9, 2003 Ron, may I suggest that if you truly do not like smilies that you consider using our patented Roboticons instead. :rsmile: :rsly: Welcome. Quote
Ron Thorne Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 (edited) Thanks, b3-er. Truthfully, "Roboticons" don't hold any great interest for me, either. I like grease, though. Edited August 11, 2003 by Ron Thorne Quote
pryan Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 Welcome Ron! We haven't "met" but it seems like you'll be a good addition to this online community. Looking forward to reading your contributions. Quote
BFrank Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 (edited) Ron is definitely "happening" ... and so is his son! Edited August 12, 2003 by BFrank Quote
mikeweil Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 The rules are to be read elsewhere, with one exception: If you want an excess of anything here, just post that you DON'T like it. Lots o' big children over here. I resisted the temptation. Have a nice time here and welcome! Quote
Jim Dye Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 Good to see you here, Ron. I have long enjoyed your postings at Jazz Corner. Quote
Ron Thorne Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 My thanks again to everyone here for their generous, warm welcome. Special thanks to BFrank for the link. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Thanks, b3-er. Truthfully, "Roboticons" don't hold any great interest for me, either. I like grease, though. That's greaze, my friend! Quote
Ron Thorne Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 That's greaze, my friend! Gotcha! Yep, that too. I sense that the greaze from my Dad's regionally-famous barbeque was a precursor to some of the musical greaze I later heard and appreciated when I discovered jazz expression. For instance, Jimmy Smith's Trio at the Howard Theatre in January, 1962 as one of the opening acts for the Miles Davis Sextet. Quote
