Guitarists Influenced by Pat Metheny

I'm involved in an argument about Pat Metheny's influence. In particular I would like to respond to the following statement:

Metheny had a major influence on jazz? On who,where? He is a good

player who put on great shows but a major influence on jazz players? I

think not. On fusion player yes but not jazz.

I don't listen to guitar players that much so I'm at a loss to answer. Who has Metheny influenced?

Vic Juris, at times he can sound very much like. Anatholi Bulkin, a swedish guy who is influenced a little to much by Pat. A local guy I've known for years, sort of a mentor to me, Larry Lolli, heavy Pat influence. And that tone of Pat's I hear just a lot in general. Brian Hughes as well is hugely influenced by Pat.

First, I'd need to have two terms defined for me by the person making that statement: "jazz", and "influence". The remark about fusion has me thinking he/she might have relatively rigid ideas regarding both.

Maria Schneider, Larry Goldings have cited his influence; I'd guess that a high percentage of all jazz-based guitar players currently playing have listened to him at least a little...

Face it, someone with that much popular and critical acclaim is going to be influential. It may not always be musically overt in someone's work, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. Influence happens!

I know it's out of topic, sorry about it Guy, but I couldn't resist to tell the story about my deep hate for the poor Pat. When he became very famous among big audience more then fifteen years ago, I was working as editor for national broadcasting, mostly I was working on cheap stuff, but every producers or directors I had to work with came in the editing room with a Pat Metheny cd. He was perfect as musical carpet for any bullshit I had to edit, from sports to the latest news. It occured me more then ten years to rediscover him...and I still have some problems to listen to him. Expecially his own works without horns.

Emily Remler. The first time I heard Catwalk, I was struck by how her sound and tone was similar to Metheny's. And she was a very good guitarist.

I would say Larry Coryell was Remler's major influence and also one for PM
