connoisseur series500 Posted August 17, 2006 Author Report Posted August 17, 2006 I've got 11. Few have voted yet, but I bet I stand at the lower to mid range of voters here. We'll see. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted August 17, 2006 Author Report Posted August 17, 2006 OK, who was the 21+? Fess up! Quote
king ubu Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 another 21+ (prob. around 25-30... or more, with the Universal versions having been around for good prizes last year, over here in Europe). Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted August 17, 2006 Author Report Posted August 17, 2006 4 this may change soon. 10% sale? Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted August 17, 2006 Author Report Posted August 17, 2006 Who is the brave soul who admitted to "none?" Quote
Ron S Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 13, with maybe another 13 or so current and future ones on the wish list (whatever that means ). Quote
GregK Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 only two here. I promise to fix that! Quote
sal Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 9 for me. Only regret buying one of them. Quote
B. Clugston Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 Just 1 for me (Giuffre). This seems to be one of those you either own a little or a lot things. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 I'll have to count 'em when I get home. I'm guessing something like about 12, maybe 15 tops. Quote
Guy Berger Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 Just 2. I find them overrated. Guy Quote
tranemonk Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 20 in my shelves... but that's not counting the 3 on order... incl. Ellington... Quote
Van Basten II Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 With those i ordered with the last special i now own 17 of them Quote
Noj Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 Turrentine, Blue Mitchell, JJ Johnson. In addition, I have the Jazz Crusaders discs, but no box or booklet. Also the last set of discs in the Stitt set. I had the Curtis Fuller, but I traded it to Conn for the individual discs. Quote
Peter Johnson Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 3 for me (Anita O'Day, my first, Gerald Wilson, and Crusaders). I also find them overrated, and in fact, I want to sell the Anita O'Day one (PM me if you're interested!). I just prefer individual CD's, where possible. That said, I'm thinking about the Art Farmer set, having purchased three of his individual CD's, which I'm really enjoying, from Paul recently. What can you do. Quote
7/4 Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 4 this may change soon. 10% sale? That's what made me buy the last two. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 9 for me. Only regret buying one of them. I also have 9, and regret one: Anita O'Day. Nine CDs of Anita is about 6 or 7 more than I need at this point. Quote
trane123 Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 (edited) 100+. In fact, the only OOP boxes that I don't have are volumes 2 and 3 of the Commodore sets. Yeah, I know...I have way too much disposable income... Here's something pretty cool - As I was ordering my 100th set I just happened to put in the comment section of the on-line order form that this was, in fact, my 100th set. Didn't expect anything from it (except maybe an email saying "thanks, keep it up"). Well, the day after I received the set (the Turrentine) I find a "next day" package laying on my doorstep with a $100 "thank you" gift certificate inside. Pretty damn cool... tranemonk Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 WOW... the Anita O'Day is one of my faves... I suggest someone PM this man...!! 3 for me (Anita O'Day, my first, Gerald Wilson, and Crusaders). I also find them overrated, and in fact, I want to sell the Anita O'Day one (PM me if you're interested!). I just prefer individual CD's, where possible. Dan Gould Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 21 on the nose. Will go to 22 next December 25. Quote

That Crusaders Box set is definitely not overrated. Quote
Quincy Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 11, and I think I'll add 2 before the month is out. Bix/Tram/Tea & Stitt are the front runners, though Venuti/Lang & Parlan are still in the race. Odd how a week ago Stitt wasn't even on the radar (at least in terms of a big big box.) But dang, those samples are too good! Quote

That Crusaders Box set is definitely not overrated. I totally agree, the Crusaders box is definitely not overrated. I'd say it's probably underrated, definitely unique in a very good way. I'm into 4 of the big boxes at this point, The Crusaders, Hank Mobley, Horace Parlan and Stanley Turrentine. I really don't have the funds or required desire to spring for many (if any) more. I'd like to pick up the Gillespie box eventually. Quote
