I'm pretty sure he remains an Indians fan, so I don't think he's the fair weather type. Quote

connoisseur series500 Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 Yeah, hard to figure the logic of SS1's teams. Here are mine: NFL: PATRIOTS Baby!!!! NBA: Who cares? MLB: Who cares? NHL: Who cares? Quote
GA Russell Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 When I was a boy my favorite football team was the Boston Patriots. But it took a lot out of it for me when they changed their name to New England, and they pretty much killed my interest when they changed their uniform and team color from red to blue. It's like a different team now. (Of course, in one sense it is a different team - they're winning!) I don't pay much attention to any sport now except that I try to listen to all of the Canadian league games that I can on the internet. Not only are the ballgames exciting, but with only eight teams the league and the players are easy to keep track of. I stayed up late last September and listened on the internet to the broadcast of the Australian rules football Grand Final. What a game! The best game of any sport I have ever heard on the radio. Other than that, I root for the Red Sox. But with the players changing so often with free agency, I don't think it's as much fun to try to keep up with the baseball teams. With the Hurricanes winning the Stanley Cup, I listened to all of the games of the finals. I was a season ticket holder of the New England Whalers in 1972, and I saw so many games I've been hockeyed out ever since. I was a season ticket holder of the Philadelphia Stars of the USFL. The best game of any sport I have ever attended was a playoff game between the Stars and the Chicago Blitz. Lots of fun times going to the Stars games. For college sports I root for Georgetown and Pitt. I'm pretty sure that Pitt's football games will be on Sirius this year, so maybe I will listen to them each week. Quote
Noj Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 My squads: NBA Lakers Clippers *will root for Lakers against Clippers. MLB Dodgers Angels *will root for Dodgers against Angels. NFL Raiders Rams *will root for Raiders against Rams. NCAA UCLA USC *will root for Bruins against Trojans. Noj=DIE HARD HOMER!!! Quote
BruceW Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 MY Squads NBA - Pistons Lakers again (when Kobe learns to be unselfish leader) Bulls when they start running over people Cavs as LBJ and teams gets better and better MLB - Angels Cardinals - because they are a well greased machine Athletics NFL - Rams - (changed passing game) although can't forgive Frontiere for moving them to St. Louis Dolphins - always like them since their inception, win or lose NCAA - Mich State for green and white USC for red and gold Michigan U for tough hard nosed football NCAA BASKETBALL - UCLA period NHL - Red Wings (even if you do now have to speak Russian) Quote
Eric Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 NCAA Hoops & Football Kansas Jayhawks NFL Packers NHL Carolina NBA & MLB I wish I cared ... Quote
Edward Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 NFL Green Bay Packers (I was a die-hard Rams fan, but that changed once Georgia whisked them away. It was a sad day when the Rams won the Super Bowl as it served to legitmize the franchise's presence in St. Louis.) NBA L.A. Lakers (I was/am a HUGE Magic Johnson fan. I am not that crazy about Phil Jackson, who I heard (on good authority) wanted to make all sorts of changes (such as those being instituted by the new head coach of the Minnesota Vikings) when he arrived in L.A. - Dr. Buss laid down the law and that was that. Also I have always liked Shaq a whole lot better than Kobe.) MLB L.A. Dodgers NCAA UCLA - ALWAYS, even when they are playing one of my other two alma maters Quote
chris olivarez Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 College football,basketball & baseball-Arizona State MLB- LA Dodgers & Pittsburgh Pirates NBA-Phoenix Suns NFL-Denver Broncos,Oakland Raiders & San Francisco 49ers NHL-Colorado Avalanche & Montreal Canadiens Quote
Dave James Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 MLB - Yankees NHL - Red Wings NFL - Eagles NBA - Could not care less. Lest anyone confuse me with being a fair weather friend, the Yanks, Wings and Eagles have been my favorite teams since the '50's. Up over and out. Quote

.:.impossible Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 Panthers just might have the thing wrapped up this year. I've been a fan since the beginning, which wasn't that long ago. It was a lot of fun to pull for them up in New England over the past few years. I enjoyed watching the Pats and the Red Sox while we lived up there, but its Panthers all the way. Quote

Pats, on the other hand, appear to be weaker. They had a great draft, but they're playing with a partial team right now. Belichick and Pioli will be checking the player cuts after August 29th. They need a couple of receivers and a couple of backup linebackers. Aside from that, the team looks very strong. Quote
jazzypaul Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 MLB: Chicago White Sox. Will only root for Cubs if they make it into post-season. However, if the Cubs and White Sox ever make it to the World Series again, I'm bringing my Guillen jersey and living in Kansas for two weeks. NHL: Philadelphia Flyers. NFL: blasphemy for a Chicagoan, but I just can't get into football. NBA: I hate basketball. MLS: Chicago Fire. Quote

I don't like football either. Of course, I don't consider myself a native Chicagoan either. The only sport I willingly watch is basketball. Don't like the others much. I'm glad the Bulls are starting to pull it together again, and it was great living here during the Jordan years. But I don't have particularly deep loyalties. Oddly, the one team I really really hate is the NHL Blackhawks. I mean I think it is stupid to have hockey teams in the South and that has serious degraded the long-term prospects of hockey, but I don't hate the teams in the south. I always root for the Redwings.
