BruceW Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 Hey Gang, This might sound a little stupid but here goes... How can I convert Windows Media Audio files (.wma) to Wave (.wav) and/or MP3 files. Do I need any special software and what?? Have been trying to convert on an XP computer and it has not worked so far. Quote
andybleaden Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 I use akram audio convertor which works a breeze and I think is either share or freeware......find it here http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Au...Converter.shtml hope that helps Quote
BruceW Posted August 8, 2006 Author Report Posted August 8, 2006 Thanks for the info, However, the sight would not let me download. Don't know why not. Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 it was my understanding that the windows format couldnt be converted. this is a new development to me. Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 Go to Goldwave.com and download the free version of their software. You can open windows media files and save them as wav or MP3 (up to 320 KBPS). Quote
David Ayers Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 On a related topic, does anyone know how I can convert .flac files to anything mp3-like I can use? Quote

Goldwave also takes flac files and extracts them into wav files and those can be saved to mp3. I don't know about direct conversion. Quote

couw Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 unflac the flacs using the usual software to get wav files and encode those to mp3 using your favourite mp3 encoder. I don't know which one Goldwave uses, it may be Fraunhofer; LAME is better. Quote
Jim Dye Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 You can use the free Foobar2000 to convert directly from FLAC to LAME MP3. Quote
