Why is she considered the ultimate babe? Is it Hollywood hype or you guys feel the same way?

What I can't believe, is that I'm the only one mentioning the 4th photo is NOT MM!

Conn, she has something that is hard to describe. Most of her on screen behaviour/way of talking would annoy the crap out of me from 99% of the female population, but not from her. There was that ever-present sadness as well.

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes was on TCM a few nights ago. Jane Russell wasn't exactly chopped liver, but Monroe just seems so exude so much more raw sexuality, in a way most actresses today even can't project.

If only she had been allowed to do a few more really good films like the one the following pics are from, Conn's question wouldn't need to be asked! I wondered, too, but by now I don't ask it any longer, myself. True what Berigan says, about the annoyance factor. Heard some interview snippets on radio, and her voice is just plain stoopid, but on screen she can do no wrong!

You know, I don't watch her movies, haven't even seen probably a quarter of them. But from photographs I just see a unique charisma that reaches out and grabs many men. She has a full and natural beauty that I wish had been captured more and not "blonded." She managed to embody a type of dream woman of the America of her time that walked in men's heads at night and that they wished they could walk with during the day.

I think she was AN ultimate babe. There are others. . . for other men in other generations and places and times.

It's sad she was not with us longer.

I did notice that photos 2 and 4 were the real MM!

Marilyn was the most copied actress but she was unique. A joy to watch, even in bad movies (she did some of those!).

I DO think she was extraordinary. Dig those curves! Maybe growing up in the 50s and 60s has to do with it. I dunno, but Marilyn, and Claudia Cardinale, espescially are great looking women to me.

At age 36. I remember reading it in the paper away in the catskills with my family. A sad little girl trapped in a blonde bombshell. She was terrific in Some Like it Hot. Guess she was Sugar.

"The Misfits" is one of my all time favorite films. So beautiful and so tragic! It's probably one of Gable, Monroe, and Clifts finest moments in three careers that were full of great moments...
