I never saw one in a store and finally got one used. It's companion Hawkins disc is hard to find as well. Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 Japanese import version: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00008K75...ie=UTF8&s=music Sure, and you can find the one with Hodges and Eldridge for $20+ too, but it's not easy to justify when there are $2.98 cds out there. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 To answer the original question, AMG lists some links to folks selling it if you want to pay the bucks. Quote

The Hawkins Live at the Village Gate disc was one of the first (and perhaps the first, now that I think about it) CDs that I purchased Quote
Clunky Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 I got a euro version of this in HMV here in UK quite recently, it's Spanish but legit afaik ( not as nasty looking as the Spanish Blue Notes). There were loads of copies knocking around 6 months ago or so. Liners are fairly limited but sound is perfect Quote

etherbored Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 (edited) i own the hawkins date, but have never owned the hawkins/eldridge/hodges sides. i recall it being around dometically for some time. does it live up to its potential? the sonics on the hawkins are warm and clear - one of the better live club records that verve did, IMHO... -e- Edited July 27, 2006 by etherbored Quote

etherbored Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 i dunno. i've a number of verves whose roster doesn't deliver what you think they'd be capable of. case in point: getz + baker. another: getz + the peterson trio. come to think of it, stan getz is the common denominator here. when's the last time roy eldrdge and johnny hodges let me down... -e- Quote

One of my favorite Getz dates. The Hawk/Roy/Rabbit session is very good but not as good as the Hawk material from the earlier evening - but the cd does include bonus tracks with Hawk and rhythm from that gig. Quote

medjuck Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 The cd in the Amazon link seems to be a diffferent one than the cd in question. However 3 of the cuts from it are on the iTunes download though Eldridge and Hodges do not play on them. What's the song list on the Hawkins! Eldridge!.... cd. It's not given on AMG. Quote

The Verve CD that I have (reissued in 1992) has Satin Doll, Perdido, the Rabbit in Jazz, Mack the Knife, It's the Talk of the Town, Bean and the Boys, and Caravan. The last four tracks are said to be previously unissued and feature only Hawkins. Edited July 29, 2006 by kh1958 Quote
